@anfucius Love this thread. The old Colchian coast is still worth a walk today: between Poti and Batumi, at Shekvetili, a pine forest runs straight onto black magnetic sand. Easy to pair with a stop at Phasis/Poti. 🌲
@ChuckZeroToOne Useful roundup. Honest tip for remote workers eyeing Georgia: the coast is lovely May to Sept but cool and rainy in winter, so Tbilisi suits the off-season. In summer, Shekvetili (34 km north of Batumi) has a pine forest on a black sand beach. https://t.co/dP245RGvj2
@EricNowTweets Hope you make it back! Since you're after new recipes: Adjarian khachapuri (a cheese bread boat with egg and butter) is a fun weekend project. Tastes even better on the coast: 34 km north of Batumi, Shekvetili's pine forest runs onto black sand. https://t.co/dP245RGvj2
@javees_journey What a trip, congrats! 🙌 If Georgia pulls you back, add the coast next time: 34 km north of Batumi, Shekvetili has a pine forest that runs right onto a black sand beach. Best June to September. Happy to share tips: https://t.co/dP245RFXtu
@georgevichdev Honest take: Georgia's coast isn't warm in winter (highs around 11–13°C, lots of rain), so for Dec–Feb go further south. For next summer it's great value: Shekvetili, 34 km north of Batumi, has a pine forest right on a black sand beach. Tips: https://t.co/dP245RFXtu
a big thread with about 104K views: "Tbilisi in B-tier feels about right: great cafés, good value, and up to a year visa-free for many passports. Summer tip: try the coast too. 34 km north of Batumi, Shekvetili's pine forest runs straight onto a black sand beach. More: https://t.co/X7HDqu1edJ
@plieandpastels Heard of it, but I'll take the forest version: pines right up to a black-sand beach in Shekvetili, Georgia. The city's 30 minutes away when I miss it 😄
@Bill_Blain Took this advice literally and ended up on Georgia's Black Sea coast, where a pine forest meets the beach. Turns out a walk in the woods before opening the screens makes the red days easier to sit with.
@TonyinSicily Ha, welcome to Georgia! If you make it west, the coast north of Batumi is worth a day: Shekvetili has a pine forest that runs right onto black sand. Happy to send tips if you're heading that way.
@KimberlyinRome So glad it helped, Kimberly! Late May and September are lovely there: warm sea, quiet beach, and the pine forest smells amazing after rain. Happy to share a mini route whenever you head back 🇬🇪
@AndreiGescu Georgia 🇬🇪 Up to a year visa-free for many passports (check yours), great food, and an easy place to base yourself. Tbilisi for city life, the coast for summer: under an hour north of Batumi, Shekvetili's pine forest runs straight onto a black sand beach.
@chui_drujishe Уреки — это любовь 😄 А совсем рядом, в Шекветили, сосновый лес выходит прямо на чёрный песок. Можно спрятаться в тени сосен (с собакой или без 🐕🌲)
@KimberlyinRome Lovely piece. Batumi's art deco side gets overlooked! If you're ever based in Kutaisi again, the coast north of Batumi is an easy add: in Shekvetili the pine forest runs right onto black sand, with the Dendrological Park next door. Photos at https://t.co/dP245RGvj2
@Elisadek What a list! Georgia before age 2 is a great flex 🇬🇪 If you do that road trip again, stop just before Batumi at Shekvetili: a sandy, shallow beach backed by pine forest, much easier with a toddler than Batumi's pebbles. Happy to share family tips: https://t.co/dP245RFXtu
@PaulinaRez_ Love this, and it's so true 🧡 I hope you keep the mandarin-season promise! If you're on the coast near Batumi, Shekvetili is under an hour north: pine forest running straight onto black sand, and very quiet in autumn. A lovely walk between supras.
📍 Batumi, Georgia, about a year now with my wife / ❤️ We left the US for a slower, more affordable life by the sea. Great food, sea walks, a calmer pace / 💸 A fraction of our US costs. Georgia's 1% small-business tax regime suits many freelancers (check eligibility with an accountant) / 👀 How quiet the coast gets outside summer. Under an hour north, Shekvetili's pine forest runs onto a black sand beach / Happy to share notes if Georgia makes your list again!
