#Behaviourchange initiatives can make a lot of difference.
In April, #Rajkot district panchayat launched a first-of-its kind pilot project to provide 200 menstrual cups in 6 months to improve #menstrualhygiene of rural women.

Today,70 female uses it within 2 months of its launch

The project was launched by Rajkot DDO @DevChoudharyIAS
in collaboration with Lal Sakhi an NGO working to improve women’s health. What started as a simple experiment on menstrual hygiene and affordable option, it is catching up fast.

A menstrual cup is a type of reusable feminine hygiene product. It’s a small, flexible funnel-shaped cup made of rubber or silicone to catch & collect period fluid.
Cups can hold more blood than other methods,leading many women to use them as an eco-friendly & hygienic option.

As part of the pilot project, @DDORAJKOT1 @DevChoudharyIAS alloted Rs 1.20 lakh from DDO’s discretionary fund to the village-level organisation (VO) of five self-help groups (SHGs) in Nagalpar village as per IE.

The menstrual cups are being given on 20 monthly instalments of Rs 10 per month managed through self help group run by women group only. These cups aren’t only hygienic but also very economical and environment friendly.

As part of it, 100 women are trained who are reaching out to other women, aware them on use of the cups and provide them at subsidised rates of around Rs 200. This way, local organizations promoting menstrual health as well as generate revenue at local level for women SHGs.

There is lot of training and awareness involved in it. Also, 200 number is for targeted village. I think it is good to go slow and do iteration as the project catches up.
