@PTarantinoMD@NEJM Sorry. That doesn’t look practice changing at all. Those curves are literally overlapping. Giving a toxic and expensive drug for 3 years for that “benefit” seems egregious. First do no harm.
There is a lot of progress that happens every year in myeloma.
Learnt a lot in 2023, from both negative and positive trials, and am thankful for the progress.
In this🧵, I will highlight 🔟 important myeloma publications from 2023 that shaped my thinking and practice.

A powerful and heart breaking read. Lot of things that we, as physicians and human beings, can learn from this.
My deepest condolences to @EthanLSanford and @NiuSanford as well as Terry’s parents. 💔
In this week's @JAMA_current, my husband @EthanLSanford writes about the deaths of our daughter Ceci and his patient Terry.
About how grief has informed his practicing of medicine and living a fuller life.
Please read about our girl and share.

Would anyone disagree that a fatal cancer in a young person is a tragedy? That we should want to lower the green bars below as much as possible?
OK well then I must be colorblind because I see green and red the same way here
Hey @AnthemBCBS. Have readmitted a teenager with Crohn's to the hospital, extremely ill. Her BMI is 12. Her gastroenterologist prescribed Humira -- denied.
Would you like to talk to this family for me, since you're making the the medical decisions here?
@DGlaucomflecken
@ShikhaJainMD The crazy part - they make this decision after reviewing YOUR documentation and plan of care! And still come up with a decision to deny medically necessary care. This amounts to practicing medicine without a license, without ever seeing the patient.
Too many doctors who see rare disease patients seem to believe that drug repurposing rarely works.
I think that is a perception based in risk aversion not a conclusion supported by the science.
Here are 5 not-talked-about-enough examples of rare-purposing working:
Springfield Clinic broke ground at the site of the new pediatrics facility last night. Providers, staff, community leaders and media gathered to celebrate the state-of-the-art facility, expected to be completed in fall 2023.
Construction officially begins next week.
Patients have to forego effective treatments because of this. Instead have to choose toxic and sometimes less effective IV infusions. CLL and prostate cancer are big ones. Happens everyday in clinic.
Question for #oncology doctors, esp community oncologists about the value of @ASCO QOPI program. Do you think it’s valuable, or burdensome, or both? Do some of the documentation requirements seem superfluous? @guptaarjun90@BFallerMD@JaneLiu2010
