This school year, every student received $1,357 less funding than they would have if the government had kept up with inflation.
This is equal to a $35,000 cut per classroom, and a $2.7 billion cut in per-student funding across Ontario.
Public education is drowning.
Limestone DSB Math Team is looking forward to sharing some fun math games with families at OAME on Sat, May 4th at St. Lawrence college from 9-12. Here is a sneak peek at one of our activities - giant tangrams. @SteveHedderson@OAMElearns@LimestoneDSB
6 days until we get to hang out with almost 1000 math lovers like us!
Did you know you can try out some of the math teaching tools at this year convention...come on over to our exhibitor demonstrations and tech-playground.
Only 8 days to go. Today we say thanks to our conference sponsors who help keep registration fees down by sponsoring a variety of aspects of our convention. Most of them will also be hosting an exhibit table so be sure to stop by to say your thanks!
So excited to present at the 2024 OAME conference! Oh, be still my heart!!....We will be thinking joyfully out loud nice and early, my wonderful friends!🥰 Lots of practical strategies. @OAMEcounts#OAME2024
Day 101: After noticing and wondering about a coloring and partitioning scheme for the numbers 1-20, we analyzed an image that extended the numbers up to 60. Can you figure out what's going on with the numbers and why they're colored and partitioned the way they are?
Because memorizing procedures can often require kids to treat the numbers in each step as digits, they often lose sight of the quantities they are actually working with.
In this way, memorizing procedures get in the way of sense-making.
