@eduleadership It’s not a school problem. It’s an addiction problem. A scan of all the discipline incidents in schools clearly reveals that kids do not have the executive functioning to contend with the neuroscience and marketing behind the devices. Most adults don’t either.

Without a diploma, our youth are 8X more likely to be incarcerated. Sticking with local graduation standards this year is going to fuel the school to prison pipeline, increase the gap (all of them), and, in general, be a huge disservice to our communities.
In CA, 130 credits are required for a high school diploma; districts can add whatever they want on top of that. During this time of #schoolclosures and #COVID19 why are district still requiring the extra?
While schools and teachers have been going over the top, we are still not offering the same opportunities pre-closure. If we can't deliver to the same level (sports, clubs, activities, in person instruction) how can we demand the same level from our students?
What I'm hearing a lot of today is that teachers in distance learning situations are struggling to meet the needs of students who receive special ed, RTI, or ELL services and students who read below grade level. Please share any resources you have for these concerns.
To reduce the strain on students, families and educators during the COVID-19 outbreak, @CAgovernor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order today to waive, pending federal approval, this year’s statewide testing for California’s more than 6 million students in K-12 schools.
