Atul Bora, BJP MLA from Dispur Constituency of Assam, has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocating for a worldwide ban on social media use by children under 16-years.

This initiative follows a similar decision by the Australian Parliament, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, which aims to make tech companies accountable for the social media activities of minors.

In his letter, Bora emphasizes the detrimental effects of social media on the younger generation, including addiction, moral corruption, and social isolation.

He highlighted the need for India to take a leading role in this global movement, citing the success of international initiatives like Yoga Day as a precedent for cultural leadership.

Bora called for immediate action to protect children from the “immoral influences” of platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, which he claims have led to family disintegration and the erosion of traditional values.

He proposed that social media companies should require government-issued identification for registration and be held accountable for their impact on youth.

The letter concludes with a plea to the Prime Minister for immediate action to protect children from the negative influences of social media, urging the Prime Minister to consider these suggestions to safeguard the nation’s future generations.

Assam: Scooters to only those students who secure more than 80%.

Two main thoughts,
👉🏼 Sudden change of eligibility right before distribution of scooters is wrong;

👉🏼 Eligibility Percentage should be uniform for boys & girls unlike this time;

Coaching students & those who pursue their higher education outside the state will not receive scooters anymore. Govt adamant with their decision.

Assam: No change in policy for scooter says CM @himantabiswa.

“If a student can go to Kota for coaching, why should he/she have greed for a no-cost scooter? This is not a reward but a provision to make their transportation easy. If they want scooter, they must enrol in Assam.”

Assam: Scooters are not rewards but provision for easy transportation for the students.

CM @himantabiswa says students must not be adamant regarding this.

However, it is to be noted that, there was no such eligibility criteria previously mentioned for this scheme. In the previous years, students for the same used to receive scooters.
