Assam: It’s close to midnight, but students at Tezpur University continue to protest against the Authorities, demanding the removal and action against the Vice Chancellor over financial irregularities.

A massive protest broke out after the authorities refused to accept the students’ demands.

Pro VC is not what they need. They need to remove the current VC and act on it.

🚨Prof. D K Bhattacharya appointed by the people, for the people, as an Acting Vice Chancellor, as permitted by the TU Act, 1993. This decision was made as a direct dismissal of Shambhu’s decision to disregard our demands, and arbitrarily impose the appointment of a Pro-Vice chancellor, where he would still have power over the Tezpur University community. We dismiss his power, we dismiss his game.

We are still standing strong on our movement. We demand a higher level enquiry ASAP.

I am disappointed with the stand of the Chief Minister of Assam regarding the on-going protests at Tezpur University.

Real leadership would have meant that the Chief Minister would have stood with the faculty, staff and students of this prestigious university.

Instead the Chief Minister is masking the failures of the current Vice Chancellor by suggesting a pro Vice Chancellor.

Actually the current Vice Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh is no stranger to controversy as several news articles state.

Back when he was the Vice Chancellor of Patna University in Bihar, there were enquiries about financial irregularities from the office of Principal Accountant General.

It would be best that prestige of Tezpur University should be paramount and a new Vice Chancellor be appointed. Stop using the Universities of Northeast for posting controversial VCs.
