Culturally, people back then worshipped loads of different gods. Baal, Asherah, Molek, etc. If no other gods were being worshipped besides Yahweh at the time, why reference it in a commandment?

There is a ton of evidence that the Bible is just a collection of historical fictions written by men, but one of the best is that the stories include several gods but modern followers pretend there’s only one deity.

@GodlessLiz Again no, I am pointing out a historical fact that "good" is a relative term historically. For example, the Mesopotamian and Sumerian people around 6000 BCE practiced slavery. Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Vikings, Africans, it was permissible for thousands of years.
