Resist idle lazy relaxation when you have pending tasks, strengthen self-control daily for future challenges, prioritize long-term fulfilling dreams, and small discipline trains your mind to ignore meaningless instant trivial pleasure.

[The Global Commission on Drug Policy (GCDP) @globalcdp]

[Michel Sidibé @MichelSidibe]

🚨 Reflections from the powerful session on “Navigating the Synthetic Drug Challenges” led by Steve Rolles and Dr. Caroline Copeland (UK):

We are entering a new and dangerous era in global drug policy. What we heard today confirms the urgency.

👇 Here are two key takeaways from the discussion:

Tweet 1
A new drug crisis is coming — faster, deadlier, and harder to stop.
Forget heroin. Synthetic opioids like nitazenes are up to 500x more potent than fentanyl, which is itself 50x stronger than heroin.
They’re cheap, easy to make, and impossible to control.
This is a public health timebomb.

Tweet 2
💡 Repression won’t solve the synthetic drug crisis.
Cartels now need just a greeting card’s worth of powder to ship thousands of lethal doses.
We must invest in:
✅ Regulated safer supply
✅ Drug checking & naloxone
✅ Education
✅ Decriminalization
The time to act is now.

Santos says the problem is not so much drug use per se but the organised crime groups he fought as president - that are a direct result of prohibition.

It empowers OCGs and makes public health problems as well

@MayorofLondon Arbour notes that if the 64milion identified by UNODC data as having an Substance Use Disorder - only 8% have access to drug treatment and health services. 'That should be our calling' on health provision

(Not wasting money on failed enforcement)

This is abt more than just ending an epidemic. It's abt the kind of wrld we want to live in. A wrld where no one is criminalized for who they are. A wrld where no one is denied healthcare because of their identity. A wrld where every life is valued equally. -@ProfAdeeba #HRC58

Somewhat reassured to hear affirmation from countries represented, of their commitment to end AIDS as a public health threat amidst the turmoil of the last several weeks. With so much progress made over the last two decades now is not the time to turn our backs. @MonashUni

The ‘War on Drugs’ destroyed lives and damaged communities. Criminalisation and prohibition have failed to reduce drug use and deter drug-related crimes. We need new approaches prioritising health, dignity and inclusion, guided by the Int.Guidelines onHuman Rights & Drug Policy.
