Very grateful to the wonderful Shelley Saxer for her generous write-up of my article Soil Governance and Private Property for JOTWELL! https://t.co/e0b3Ld2is8.
Semester over! It has been a fun one visiting @IowaLawSchool. It also marks the end of my time at @NIU_Law - I'll be joining the @mulaw faculty in the fall. Excited for the new opportunity but already missing my students and colleagues at NIU who have made it a wonderful 7 years!
We @NIULaw are so excited for the sixth annual Chicagoland Junior Scholars Conference! Looking forward as always to a great day of scholarship and conversation. And many thanks to our wonderful hosts @LoyolaLaw and @smbrnsn in particular!!
The Sixth @NIU_Law Chicagoland Junior Scholars Conference will be held at Loyola Chicago on October 6, 2023! Priority given to law school faculty teaching ten years or fewer in the Chicagoland region, broadly defined. Send abstracts to [email protected] by July 5!!!
Prof. Sarah Fox was the recipient of the Board of Visitors Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award for her accomplishments in scholarship & research. This award was made possible by our dedicated Board of Visitors.

Time for Biden Administration to start looking at more aggressive/creative ways to assist/empower local governments - some thoughts on how they may be able to do so (with needed qualifiers about regulatory action after WV v. EPA):

In the wake of WV v. EPA, seeing lots about local governments filling in the climate policy gap. They've been doing so for a long time, but local climate action depends on cities having the authority and $$ - and the authority to raise $$! - to act.

As this take makes somewhat clear, partisan politics at the state level mean that local governments do not have the ability - either in terms of power, resources, or both - to do take the climate actions they may wish to

@profallentweets @ProfZboreak The reality is that we have always had non-TT faculty participate this year, and we will again this year as well. In the interest of transparency, what we do prioritize to some degree is geography, radiating out from the Chicagoland area.
The @NIULaw Chicagoland Junior Scholars conference will be held again this year on 9/30 at beautiful @LoyolaChicago! Now taking applications - if you have been on a law faculty fewer than 10 years, consider submitting an abstract (200-300 words) to [email protected] by 7/1.
State preemption of local natural gas bans is cutting off an important avenue for local climate policy. Great article by @ella_nilsen for @CNN giving very needed coverage to the trend - glad to have a chance to speak with her for the piece.
New post up at @SlogLawBlog re: local decarbonization/building electrification/natural gas bans/choose your policy buzz word. How can cities tackle the building emissions problem?
