@Haleemah0527 Consent is key, but I still think there should be added regulations on what they can take from us. Do you think app tracking may become more advanced in the future? Therefore adding onto a larger loss of privacy?
@Afrongillo9 True! The wording and length of a terms and conditions can also be misleading. How can we even go about protecting our privacy when they hardly give us the chance?
@DanielK15147 If we are app-dependent, how would we distance ourselves from our technology? Upcoming generations are fixed on technology and apps at a young age, I wonder if they would even want to change?
A big app currently for data analytics is Microsoft Power BI, which allows for business owners to gain insight into their analytics right on their phone - creating miniature digital identities of their customers. #DigitalIdentityS21003#EME4390S21003#DigitalIdentity
Your phone and apps always know where you are - and by extension, those companies know, those employees know. They track you because they think they can (“Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night…”). #DigitalIdentityS21003#EME4390S21003#DigitalIdentity
“These companies sell, use or analyze the data to cater to advertisers, retail outlets and even hedge funds seeking insights into consumer behavior” (The New York Times, 2018).
We may be the ones typing in the search box, but every option that shows up is calculated. The apps we use take our information and guide us along decisions bc they want to influence us - it’s why they’re free, *they* use *us*.
Katie Davis and Howard Gardner believe us to be too dependent on the apps we use daily, insinuating our phones essentially make decisions for us - where we eat, visit, where we shop, what we look at, etc. #DigitalIdentityS21003#EME4390S21003#DigitalIdentity
@RountreeBryanna Which is the exact opposite of what people need to realize. Silence only enables everything we are pushing to change, whereas open conversation rallies for perspective. Do you think our generation will be able to normalize this ideology?
@TheChristinab4 It’s wild to think the pandemic was the driving force for many communities moving to online, when in fact, technology has only been growing around them. Do you see any other communities/groups that still have yet to make the leap?
Despite the divide of the 2020 election, I believe more and more people are learning to adopt this political identity - empathy and strength in numbers proving to be very powerful agents in creating change.
While holding people accountable is vital to creating change, the second type of political identity proves to be more logical - where we come together as one, working collectively and effectively to accomplish our goals. #Digital_Identity#EME4390F21002
We can see this route to invoking change to be overall toxic and distracting to the actual issue at hand by comparing it to our modern term for it: cancel culture - which only has negative connotations attached to it.
One type of identity politics is the idea of common enemy identity, where a group of individuals effectively find one person or group to blame - expending all power to doing so. #Digital_Identity#EME4390F21002
If we have learned anything from the 2020 election (and even the 2016 election) we can see that speaking up is incredibly effective and vital to spreading information and new perspectives.
Speak-Up Culture allows for a welcoming and inviting environment to give voice to something you see that is wrong. Universities don’t (and shouldn’t) shy away from this bc we only ever have something to learn from a differing outlook. #Digital_Identity#EME4390F21002
It is wonderful to find that people have utilized our digital age to enhance their religious communities, reaching out to those who may not have had access to similar users before and working around the limitations that Covid-19 has created.
Increased user digital identity has allowed for a widespread of common interests/mindsets to dig their permanent place in our online forums - one being religion, where connecting and interacting with similar users has enhanced the experience. #Digital_Identity#EME4390F21002
