A jury has now convicted activists who blocked the Golden Gate Bridge and trapped thousands of motorists, but it appears those responsible have learned nothing.
Criminal defense attorneys are supposed to defend their clients’ legal rights, not celebrate their crimes. In this case, the defense never disputed that the defendants intentionally committed the acts charged. Instead, they argued that blocking the bridge was “necessary” to save lives in Gaza and that the defendants therefore reasonably believed their conduct was lawful.
But a public defender publicly embraced that absurd argument at a press conference, even after the guilty verdicts. She declared that “taking a bridge and blocking traffic” is “the bare minimum” Americans should be doing and vowed to continue fighting for the Palestinian cause.
One defendant who spoke—herself an attorney—was unrepentant. Referring to blocking the bridge, she said it “felt like such a relief that I could actually do something.” Those statements are potentially relevant to sentencing because they suggest a lack of remorse and an ongoing commitment to engage in similar conduct.
Before trial, defense attorneys for several defendants asked the judge to dismiss the charges in the interest of justice. Their 18-page motion focused almost entirely on Israel’s alleged conduct and concluded by declaring that the defendants had “taken a stand on the right side of history.”
If support for the Palestinian cause is a free pass to commit these crimes, what is the limit to that principle?
The activist organizations backing the defendants issued calls for supporters to pack the courtroom for the verdicts. According to reports, the proceedings became so disruptive when the judge thanked the jurors for their service that she had to order the courtroom cleared. Before they left, some reportedly shouted at the jurors that they should be ashamed.
In other words, when the legal system holds them accountable, the response is to intimidate the people enforcing the law.
It’s scary how quickly these sorts of movements can gain power.
@ActualAmericans@Cgm944@Sc_Meerkat@s_m_marandi@BBC You’re wrong. Israel has been accused of genocide since its founding. For Arabs and Muslims, Jews refusing to die is genocide of the Muslims trying to kill us. Read a book.
@SteveHiltonx Take this legal opinion to the bank: this HOA “rule” is unconstitutional and invalid. Not only can it be safely ignored, it can be the subject of a lawsuit. 🇺🇸

I have just stumbled across a huge smuggler network on Tiktok. It's insane.
They openly post their phone numbers and advertise their "services" on the platform, getting thousands of likes and replies full of prospective illegal immigrants. This includes forged passports, so called safe routes into Europe, and food/drinks and rooms to sleep on the way.
It's a massive operation.
Smugglers film the men they're smuggling, ask them if they're "happy customers", and boast about the accommodation and food provided while they do their smuggling.
The migrants are mainly Afghan men, as are the smugglers. Many obtain fake Iranian passports, which is why many "Iranian" criminals in the West are actually Afghans with fake identities. They arrive in the West presenting themselves as Iranian, so that when many of them commit rape and murder, it gets falsely pinned on Iranians.
Once again, illegal immigration is a BOOMING BUSINESS on Tiktok, and nothing seems to be done to stop it.
They're so confident and secure in their operation that they're not only literally using Western social media to facilitate this - they post their own contact info and expect nothing to happen to them.
Tiktok and social media giants have a responsibility to shut this down. The invasion of the West is being advertised on Western platforms and apps.
It's MADNESS.
@m7mdkurd “El Kurd” claiming to be Palestinian is a mockery.
Excluding combatants who work for MILITANT ORGS LIKE HAMAS from the definition of journalism is simply non-retarded.
@PalominoOMG@JonathanTurley@lordbuckly I feel sad about it. And I demand justice. Step one is providing homes for the refugees the same as refugees of all conflicts like how Ukrainians refuges are housed in Poland etc. (Outside the zone of conflict). Second is disarm the militants who started the war, Hamas.
@joshuapbrink@wepinthemdown@_ColdHands_@DavidSamuelMay@UN@Aizenberg55@SpencerGuard It’s true. You can’t respond. I can respond to everything - including your misdirection re journalists - but you resort to ad hominen.
Name me five innocent deaths who were not near or around Hamas
How do you explain that there are 10% more kids in Gaza today than before war?
@joshuapbrink@_ColdHands_@DavidSamuelMay@UN@Aizenberg55@SpencerGuard It’s a brutal war Brink. Not “everything is fine”. What planet are you on? It’s a brutal war where diehard militants who want Israel gone are fighting a serious but constrained army that wants the militants gone. Out of 75k dead, 40k were Pal militants. That’s a good ratio
