I teach about managing parks & natural resources. I research the role of emotion in human-wildlife experiences. I hope all your favorite bands stay together.
Please help us, @ChicagosMayor and @ChicagoDOB. Each and every one of the 1,000+ birds killed in Chicago today are protected under federal law. Chicago is in violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Students will continue to learn in Minnesota State University's largest classroom for at least another five years under an agreement between MSU and the city of Mankato. https://t.co/LHN5H1mHMr
Long before I was a Minnesota resident, there was concerned talk about the moose population. As much as a natural resource, moose are a cultural resource. Hopefully this will bring us closer to a long-term conservation strategy.

"This will be the first time Minnesota transfers a state park to a Native American community."
Important development, both for the Dakota Nation & for state park management & Indigenous relations going forward.

Reminder: @MNSUMankato offers the only nationally accredited Natural Resource Management program in the state of MN. Looks like a great time to take one of my classes! https://t.co/bOnC35Zam6 https://t.co/IGuqQehRgA
Each fall I teach a course titled 'Techniques in Cultural and Natural Resource Management' in which we emphasize recreational impacts and how to minimize them. Wildlife impacts are poorly understood, so this research could be invaluable! https://t.co/DbWmM1IZxW
Selfie culture is no doubt part of what is occurring. However, I suspect there are deeper motivtaions at play. Specificaly, that a desire for peak experience/awe (and not clicks) influences many proximity seekers. If so, education may be an insufficient mangement response
The latest cringe binge of tourists behaving badly with @YellowstoneNPS wildlife has @freddreier wondering if the outdoor community can change the culture of selfie seekers:

"Golf rounds per visitor per day have declined 30% over the past decade while hiking has increased 50%." Cultural and Natural Resource Management matters.

Had a great time speaking at the #MNFEA2023 Conference in Mankato yesterday! We had many students in attendance and a great time seemed to be had by all!
2000+ manatees starved in a 26 month span. It feels like they used a bandage for a wound that needed stitches… and now they’re taking off the bandage….
The effort to feed thousands of pounds of lettuce to starving manatees in Florida officially ended for the winter season as deaths of the marine mammals appear to be slowing despite the long-term threat of pollution to their main food source, seagrass. https://t.co/IxMEAxDbiq
