6/ Read @dahmad97’s piece for how @Hacpl_Official is managing to make a killing despite seeing the demand for its cars nosedive.

1/ Despite a jaw-dropping 59% nosedive in sales revenue, @Hacpl_Official has miraculously raked in its third-highest final profit in the last five years for a nine-month period. How did they pull this off? 🧵
5/ @Hacpl_Official evidently has a winning formula to withstand the storm that is the current slump. Will the new model yield greater returns once interest rates drop and volumes surge? Or will @Hacpl_Official revert to their usual modus operandi? It’s anyone’s call, really.
12/ Can this reverse Robin Hood economics create a more equitable energy market for ordinary customers? Read @dahmad97’s piece for the full story.

1/ Pakistan's power infrastructure teeters on the precipice of disaster. One solution is to reduce electricity rates for the most affluent enterprises. Sounds odd, right? Yet, this is precisely the request some industrialists are pressing upon the government. 🧵
8/ Read @dahmad97’s piece for how @nha_pakistan1 has accumulated these staggering losses, why they may not be as detrimental as we perceive them to be, and how the government squandered a chance to emphasise it wasn’t haemorrhaging money for once.
https://t.co/D8mJ3WfDIQ
1/ You may have heard that PIA, PSM, and WAPDA are the biggest loss-making SOEs in Pakistan. But did you know that in FY 2022, @nha_pakistan1 topped the list, with Rs 169 billion in losses? How did this happen? And should we be worried? 🧵
7/ @nha_pakistan1’s losses are not as dreadful as they’re being portrayed, but they are not trivial either. They require a thorough examination and explanation, which the government has failed to provide.
3/ To compound the situation, millions of the most economically forlorn consumers — those whom @GovtofPakistan vows to shield with its shoddy subsidy policies — were pilfered of subsidised rates and exposed to those applicable to regular consumers. Sadly, none of this is new.
2/ @NEPRA5’s damning report is currently being contested by @MoWP15. However, if the allegations are spot-on, then millions of Pakistanis were swindled for electricity consumption surpassing the standard 30-day monthly billing cycle.
20/ And the icing on the cake? There’s a chance that the DISCOs might never be reformed. Read this week’s article by @dahmad97 for all the details of what these DISCOs are, how we arrived here, and how we have botched them at every turn.
