Over the weekend, I changed my @ from @UnhypnotizedBTC to @ProofofMindBTC.
About two years ago, I created UnHypnotizedBTC and started the UnHypnotized Podcast with @coinbeastmedia. It was also when I really began finding my place in the Bitcoin community here on X.
I had already found Bitcoin before then, but it was through the podcast, conversations and connections here that my understanding truly deepened. I learned from so many of you, and Bitcoin began changing how I understood sovereignty, responsibility, truth and freedom.
The name UnHypnotized came from another realization.
At that point, after more than a decade as a hypnotherapist, I could see that I wasn’t really hypnotizing people. I was helping them recognize the conditioning, beliefs and identities already shaping their lives so they could become free of them.
UnHypnotized became the name of my company, my podcast and the body of work I believed the world needed, especially after everything we witnessed beginning in 2020.
That will always be part of my story. But the work has continued to evolve.
Proof of Mind brings the pieces together more clearly.
It is the inner proof of work: becoming aware of what has been unconsciously running you, creating coherence between what you believe and how you live, and seeing the evidence of that transformation in your choices, relationships, work and reality.
It is the work I now want to bring more intentionally to Bitcoiners, Bitcoin companies and anyone who knows that sovereignty in the world must also include sovereignty of mind.
UnHypnotized named what we were waking up from.
Proof of Mind names what we are here to build.
Joe is right, the *average person* will not roll dice, etc.
The average person will also not workout everyday or eat healthy food or read a book or homeschool their kids or do million other things that make for an exceptional life.
That's the definition of average.
The average person, consequently, will also not have sovereign, permissionless, censorship-resistant money.
If that's not what you're after, you can go buy Joe's permissioned, censorship-prone, derivative IOU product.
Bitcoin helps you grow.
"One of the essential requirements for true spiritual growth and deep personal transformation is coming to peace with pain. No expansion or evolution can take place without change, and periods of change are not always comfortable.
Change involves challenging what is familiar to us and daring to question our traditional needs for safety, comfort, and control. This is often perceived as a painful experience."
As Michael A. Singer explores in The Untethered Soul, our attempts to avoid pain can become the very barriers that keep us from experiencing true freedom and growth.
@88_sats So true, that card was not it.
Did he lose it in the wild or by placing it somewhere and forgetting? If that latter is the case, I can possibly help.
Yes, that bullying happened to so many of my friends and were manipulated into getting them against their will. I totally understand how that happens and they were lied to and manipulated and then gaslighted when there were awful symptoms! The same thing that happened during covid - 'that mean's it's working' type bs.
I also decided to wait the year and see how I felt after that but tbh, once I told them I would not change my mind - because they kept calling - they stopped. They would scare me about it as time went on by telling me he would need them to go to school or play sports but he never really did. It only became an issue during covid.
Anyways, good on your for doing your best and listening to yourself and trusting your maternal instincts to get you to here :) 🧡
I woke up thinking about it too. About how cool Coldcard was and all the OG Bitcoiners I know IRL were using it. I was thinking about how I got scammed from a chunk of BTC a few years ago because of a human ego flaw of wanting to be a part of the bitcoin community in Calgary so badly that I gave bitcoin to help a friend out. Or who I thought was that person.
Thinking about how I felt like I really wanted to learn how to use my Coldcard and for a while felt a nagging sense like I’m not a real Bitcoiner if I don’t learn this. When I tried, I found it complicated and thought I’d better learn more about this before I move any BTC to it.
I connected with a mentor and was taking steps to set it up. I was working through the inner stuff, the ego stuff that came up along with it in order to not make that mistake again. I thought about how at our meetups all the men (or most) know how to use these things and how it wasn’t easy to get a word in to really learn.
I worked through a sense of never going to really be a part of the Bitcoin community as a whole in the same way and accepted it. I started the women’s meetup so we have a chance to talk about these things together and learn together, and I grew.
I thought about how we have highly intelligent and skilled women in our meetup and yet, none of them set up the coldcard they won at the Sat market, yet.
I really wanted to set mine up because I thought it was the gold standard and it was so cute and had gold specs in it and was like a shiny new thing that again - seemed so cool.
Alas, so much to learn from this. I’m happy that I stayed the course of working through the inner discomfort that came up around Coldcard even before this horror. I worked through feelings of inadequacy and old stuff around never fitting in anywhere that had nothing to do with the Bitcoin community.
I’m glad I listened to my intuition and practiced low time preference with the CC and many other things in my life and work.
I have always felt that there is a spot for me in our local, online, and global community of bitcoin, and I’ve never felt so inspired and valued for though wisdom of my own proof of work and experience more.
And one of the things I love the most is how we are truly growing and learning together, and willing to be humbled by our humanity and making mistakes along the way, which only bring us closer together – like this experience.
It makes me feel more courageous to keep being myself authentically and make mistakes, speak up so that I can learn of my own blind spots, and knowing that I’ll still be loved and supported as I grow.
So, it appears that once again, Bitcoin has in different ways, taught us all life-changing lessons and I know that we will all be better off as a result.
🌞Woke up thinking about Bitcoin and self custody again.
“Don’t trust, verify” has been haunting me. The reality is that many of us still have to trust wallet makers, exchanges, and Bitcoin companies.
My heart goes out to everyone who had their Bitcoin stolen. The thieves are responsible for the crime. @Coinkite bears responsibility for its failures. I also take responsibility for the trust I placed in them.
If we want to onboard millions more Bitcoiners, we must keep making self custody simpler, safer, and more resilient.
The Bitcoin world I want to live in is built on respect, self sovereignty, personal responsibility, and continuous improvement.
Like a phoenix, Bitcoiners will rise.
