@MatthewEppinett Assisted suicide is hardly the only controversial issue Illinois lawmakers have passed while bypassing the bill reading requirements of the state constitution, even if it may be the most egregious: https://t.co/zqDy4vroMq
@MatthewEppinett It also violates Article IV, Section 8 (d) of the Illinois Constitution: https://t.co/9BUY8paEvH
SECTION 8. PASSAGE OF BILLS
(d) A bill shall be read by title on three different
days in each house. ...
@Jerusalem_Post Actually Spain committed genocide against Jews FOUR times—the first time being the Visigoths during the sixth and seventh centuries, prior to the Moorish invasion in 714.
It's a good time to share this cartoon again as @NYSenateDems consider #assistedsuicide. Who will have access to services they need to live? Who will be pushed toward death because they can't afford anything else? Narrow votes should not determine life and death.
@JRodMSW@BenSzalinski Also the 5-day waiveable waiting period in SB 1950 allows for any adult to qualify for lethal drugs via voluntary stopping of eating and drinking (VSED), thereby gutting the terminal illness requirement: https://t.co/bdd9GNN2RT
6/ This is already happening in the US.
Pope presents the case of Cody Sontag, a woman with early stage Alzheimer’s in Oregon.
On February 8, 2023, she began VSED. By day five, her physician declared her terminal due to dehydration and granted her assisted death.
@JRodMSW@KaitlynnLisa@AmyPaulin Exactly—because if VSED qualifies as a "terminal illness" in states like Oregon (and others which allow waiver of waiting period, or shortened it to 48 hours or less), then EVERY ADULT qualifies as "terminally ill" if they are willing to stop food & water
re: the NYS Assembly debate on assisted suicide. Having cared for a loved one as they died, I bristle at the suggestion that she did not have dignity and grace because she did not end her own life. Cancer takes a lot, but it 100% cannot strip any of us of our inherent dignity.
When the next Democrat wins, they will point to Trump’s lawlessness to justify THEIR next round of lawlessness. And it will be deliberate lawlessness, too.
We have to break this vicious cycle. This is the road to dictatorship and the end of our constitutional republic.
Difficult to overstate how remarkable the Wilkinson opinion is. For seasoned readers of these opinions, the tone and substance are unmistakably unique and severe. This was not a normal opinion for Wilkinson. He knew and clearly hoped the entire country would read this—and I think it will easily be a legacy-defining opinion for his entire career.
It reads as if he knew it would be when he wrote it. He delivered. I hope the country heeds his warning.
Yes, you can deport MS-13 gang members and hardened criminals—you just need to first prove in a court of law that they are in fact MS-13 gang members or that they committed a crime. We can’t just take your word for it and we’ve already seen why. Mistakes are made.
Due process may be inconvenient, but it’s the price of being the United States. It helps prevent government from making mistakes that violate our rights.
Pretty important—at least the Founders thought so.
This is an absolute *must read* opinion from Judge Wilkinson on the Fourth Circuit - a very conservative judge - in the Abrego Garcia case.

@RyanLEllis@MoreBirths Same as Rockland County, NY—what do Lakewood, NJ and Monsey, NY (and Bnei Braq and Meʾah Sheʿarim, Israel) have in common? עם ישראל חי
My @FormTheCulture column a few weeks ago ticked off a few online antisemites. Which in turn caused Greater Hartford for Israel to invite me to speak at their weekly West Hartford walk for the hostages. Here is the speech I gave this morning. https://t.co/GkhvvS1P5s
Tariffs can be a powerful economic and national security tool when wielded effectively.
The words of former President Ronald Reagan ring true today — high tariffs lead to retaliation, and ultimately the burden falls onto American consumers and businesses.
Trump's tariffs are a harmful, hidden tax on American consumers; are aimed as much against US allies as against our enemies; and will cost conservatives and Republicans big time in coming elections.
“Trade is an economic alliance that benefits both countries. There are no losers, only winners. And trade helps strengthen the free world. Yet today protectionism is being used by some American politicians as a cheap form of nationalism, a fig leaf for those unwilling to maintain America's military strength and who lack the resolve to stand up to real enemies.” President Ronald Reagan,Radio Address to the Nation (November 26, 1988) https://t.co/dASp0w8jJJ
The Trump Tariff Tax is the largest peacetime tax hike in U.S. history. These Tariffs are nearly 10x the size of those imposed during the Trump-Pence Administration and will cost American families over $3,500 per year. Check Out“Spoiling America’s Golden Age”@AmericanFreedom 👇
One reason we need due process: to catch the government errors before they do something bad they can’t fix.
No, you don’t know if these people should be deported until AFTER they get due process.
@cowgirl377 What is wrong with Georgia? I have managed to stop human composting legislation in Connecticut for three years in a row: https://t.co/8Byt0Juw8v
