@TomMarazzo Someone worth billions can afford so many options in life that a regular worker will never see. Generating jobs and revenue is great; but if you can afford stock as payment instead of salary you’re probably wealthy enough to pay proper income taxes like the rest of us.

@TomMarazzo Thats a unbalanced comparison in terms of paying taxes. If you handed those workers their taxes back in cash today, it’s potentially life changing amounts for them. The same can’t be said for someone worth billions, their comfort level in life would be unchanged

@MikePMoffatt As someone who drives for work to different locations regularly, it seems wasteful in multiple ways to drive a long distance for work when cost of living is rising so fast

@MikePMoffatt Is it feasible or even worth the effort to try and utilize more of the 401 corridor or the surrounding area? Genuine curiosity. Driving into GTA for work because you can’t afford to live there seems wasteful

@MikePMoffatt To me, it seems logical that there is a tipping point where it becomes too costly for Government to continue to support the growth of the GTA. The financial demand is massive. Adding infrastructure in Chatham is surely cheaper than Toronto. Where does the line get drawn

@MikePMoffatt It just seems counter productive to continue building business and housing in an area people are moving away from because of affordability. Theres a demand for housing everywhere, but piling jobs in the most expensive housing markets doesn’t seem like a good solution either.

@MikePMoffatt its always easy on paper. from the outside,i don’t live in the GTA(200km away) if you can avoid it, go around. The road construction never ends because widening the highways doesn’t solve the problem anymore. Build homes and business where theres space and affordability

@MikePMoffatt In terms of people leaving the cities, does it not make more sense to move some of said jobs/ economic growth out of the direct GTA? Simply moving more businesses down the 401 corridor to areas like Woodstock etc. housing, traffic, infrastructure would all benefit

@cartkait Most people don’t follow it very close. I just see it as a contrast to where we accept the violence we have here instead of trading it out. The fear that a big player will hunt you down can be enough to stop the dangerous plays on other players

@cartkait While i dont really agree, i find it interesting, because compared to European pro leagues the NHL’s violence is more accepted. Euro leagues have less fighting, but more slashing/tripping etc, leading to much worse and far more injury

@MikePMoffatt An education from Canada is simply worth more in a lot of countries. And its a status symbol for some. As for college or university, industries like construction come out of colleges and are needed in now booming countries

@EmmMacfarlane They hired 98 new MOL inspectors for covid purposes for all industry. As of last week, i was hearing from my workplace outside health and safety partner that almost all other construction companies on their roster are also adopting preemptive plans to meet MOL standards

@GrannaBaker @ashley_quan @EmmMacfarlane A calm approach is certainly helpful, but when you consider where the cases in ontario are landing it gets hard to compare. Ontario is 3X larger than B.C, and the GTA is roughly 2.5X larger than the greater Vancouver area. Begins to change a lot of factors in respect to numbers.
