@ashleyann_atx Thank you for sharing. Even in social justice communities this happens. Too many critical questions, especially with underlying emotions, are treated as causing delay, making things too personal, etc.
At burnout job, I made the mistake of voicing my concerns when I was confused why I was being treated differently from my peers. Other people would have taken note, but I asked questions. I trusted and respected everyone. I thought a conversation would ease my anxiety.
Avoid immediately:
- Assuming it’s an emergency situation
- Deciding the person is behaving or thinking “irrationally” and there is no point engaging with them
- Isolating the person or removing from community
- Rushing to medicate
- Trying to “prove” that they are wrong

I know what people are trying to highlight by saying things like "some ppl can't afford to be depressed because they'd end up on the streets"
but it also glosses over just how many people do end up unhoused for that very reason
