Four children killed in #Djibouti 'drone strike' explosion: official, NGO
Four children were killed in southern Djibouti in an explosion, authorities said late Tuesday, with a human rights group saying it was a drone strike.
The children died in an explosion in the #Dhikil region in #Afar, public prosecutor Hassan Mohamed Hassan said in a statement, calling it a tragic event.
Afar's community feels marginalised by President Ismail Omar #Guelleh, a member of the majority Issa community, who has ruled the country with an iron fist since 1999.
"Two children, aged six and seven (a girl and a boy), were killed at the scene, and on Tuesday two others succumbed to their injuries due to a lack of evacuation and medical care," the Djiboutian League for Human Rights (#LDDH) said in a press release.
The LDDH said the children were tending livestock when the incident took place and that six others were wounded, one seriously.
It noted this is the "sixth drone attack in this region against nomadic populations in the space of six months".
A team has been deployed to the scene to determine the cause of the explosion, prosecutor Hassan added.
It follows an incident in February last year, when authorities claimed to have launched a drone attack near the border with Ethiopia, which killed eight members of a rebel group, as well as an unknown number of civilians. (Source: AFP)

➡️ 'disrespect and dishonesty [toward Afar] of the newly founded AfroAsia Institute and its director has no limits..'

It is to be remembered that we, International Federation of Afar Diaspora (FIDA), on 9th July 2024 issued a press release calling upon the Afar community not to participate in a roundtable discussion on Afar-Somali conflict in Nairobi scheduled for 11th July 2024 and organized by AfroAsia Institute for Strategic Studies, a boycott which was effective.
The AfroAsia Institute and its founder and director, Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad, initially opted to remain silent on the apparent failure of the conference. It, however, has become evident that the director, 12 days later, changed his mind with the assumption that the recent Afar-Somali peace agreement sponsored by the federal government of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa was an opportunity to save the day.
What we have witnessed in a short period of time is that disrespect and dishonesty of the newly founded AfroAsia Institute and its director has no limits.

60th Mafaydala Afar indiscriminate Massacre Commemoration of more than 500 Men, Women, and Children, on 23rd July 1964 on the Sacred Eïd Al Adha Day by Somalia Republic Irredentists"Muslim" and Issa-Somalis"Muslim" Militia, on #Muslim Afar. On that day, Afar was the #Somali #irredentism burning offering.
As we solemnly mark the 60th Anniversary of the tragic massacre that claimed the lives of 500 Afar pastoralists, including men, women, and children, and led to the looting of livestock in Mafaydala, located in the Afar region of Ethiopia, it is crucial to acknowledge the brutal assault orchestrated by the irredentist Republic of Somalia forces and Issa militias on the sacred Eid Celebration day of July 23, 1964, with the collaboration of the failed rogue imperial Utopia_Ethiopia that failed on its regalian duty to protect Afar and Ethiopian Territory from a foreign power, The Republic of Somalia.
The heinous events of that day serve as a stark reminder of the profound impact of such atrocities and the need to honour the memory of the innocent victims who lost their lives in a senseless act of violence. Despite the efforts of 80 Afar elders who sought peace through a negotiated agreement with federal governors, their trust was betrayed as they and their people were mercilessly massacred.
The massacre at Mafaydala stands as a dark stain on #Somali #irredentism history, highlighting the injustices and trauma inflicted upon the #Afar community. The suffering endured by the Afar #pastoralists underscores the lasting pain caused by such brutal acts of aggression.
As we pay tribute to the victims of #Mafaydala, we must reassert our commitment to justice, peace, and reconciliation. We must ensure the stories of those who perished are preserved and shared with future generations, fostering a deeper understanding of the past and guiding us towards a more empathetic and inclusive world.
In honouring the memory of the souls lost in Mafaydala, let us stand in unwavering solidarity with the Afar community, advocating for truth, accountability, and a future where such atrocities are never repeated, and the regalian power exercises its duty to protect its territory and people equally. May the sacrifices of our ancestors serve as a beacon, guiding us towards a world where peace and harmony reign supreme and where the memory of those who perished will never be forgotten.
