Displacing a duly elected assembly with a two thirds majority, in favour of a council of the usual, rootless suspects, will only harm Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its people. Emergency doesn’t ‘build consensus’, or anything else.
“I was 14 when martial law came and a young man when that general died. My generation learnt a dangerous lesson: power does not explain itself. The man who speaks out is transferred; the man who stays quiet is promoted; the judge who insists upon his independence is superseded”
Former Judge Mansoor Ali Shah’s article in Dawn is a must read!

Shukar. May this begin the end of one of the most shocking miscarriages of justice in this country's history. The word 'travesty' was invented for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chattha's case.
For thousand times it was repeated that 26th and then 27th amendment will have damaging effects.
Technical Supreme Court is dead, but just in order to make some men happy, its still costing billions monthly to taxpayer. Such a shame.
The Supreme Court handled the issue of these six judges in such a way that it turned them into the accused instead. This was the beginning of the 26th Amendment. Only one functional institution had been built in the history of Pakistan, and it was destroyed—one judge was removed, another transferred to Peshawar, and another to Lahore, simply because they wrote down what everyone in this society already knew. Today, when @ImaanZHazir's case takes place, the courtroom stands empty—Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Athar Minallah!
"...The Attorney General told the court that after the passage of the 27th Amdmt., the SC no longer had the authority to protect fundamental rights."
Incredible. By that logic, fundamental rights are now irrelevant to the SC when deciding thousands of cases still before it.
A video of Sindh Assembly MPA Muhammad Shabbir Qureshi struggling to pronounce English words while reading a resolution has gone viral on social media.
In Pakistan, violence against women and girls is a human rights crisis.
For many, a woman that asserts her autonomy is seen as someone who must be punished. On acknowledging and dismantling rape culture for Dawn today:

Big victory for Pakistan in The Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague. Judges from USA, Belgium, Australia and Jordan said that Indus Water Treaty remained fully in force, as India had no justification for ending or suspending the agreement.
