@SethLederman Fibromyalgia is just very early arthritis- not to diminish it- the testing for inflammatory arthritis is very lacking and very dated.

So important to have coordinated multi specialty care for patients with #takayasu Arteritis #vasculitis @MayoClinic #Vascular center

Analysis of 17,000 adults taking Vit D and/or omega-3, showing no impact on cancer and CVD but reduced incidence of autoimmune disease by 25% to 30% in older adults vs those who received neither. Supplements without adverse events. https://t.co/hO2AhY2zQe

Before I walk into the exam room, I try to make a mental intention to ask #patients with #rheum diseases about their #goals.

Research by @rawarrior & @RheumPF in collaboration w/ #mayoclinicrheumatology suggests we do not do this enough.

Concerning data in our #ACR21 poster no. 1167

#RA pts whose main #goal is less #pain also report:

- not having a #treatment plan
- longer duration before Rx
- more DMARDs tried
- lower patient satisfaction

Unmet #healthcare needs for #RA persistent pain

@rawarrior @RheumPF

We need practical approaches for #goal based shared decision making for patients with #rheum diseases.

Here’s a big shout out to @JenBartonMD and @glynelwyn for their strong work in this field.

@EULAR_JC @zach_wallace_md @rheum_covid This (@rheum_covid) was formed on Twitter (!) from a now-legendary tweet by @LCalabreseDO in early 3/2020. The physician registry is administered jointly by UCSF and EULAR.

Physicians can voluntarily enter cases of rheumatic diseases who had COVID-19

1st partial control in 16 yrs frequently in jeopardy due to disorganized #rheum office sending scripts late. #30dayscriptssuck Too many people with rheumatoid disease (PRD) suffering unnecessarily still by improper management of the tools we do have.

[Iain B. McInnes @IainBMcInnes1]

We must not let control of disease be lost, even in times of drug shortages. Thank you @Garethiacobucci @bmj_latest for helping to bring this urgent topic forwards in the pursuit of protecting patients, everywhere at this time.

[Kelly O'Neill (Kelly Young) @rawarrior]

Unfortunately, calling this disease by "the A word" perpetuates the myths that delay treatment---for a disease that's successfully treatable only if it's caught early. #rheumdisease doesn't start or end in the joints #ACR21 #rheum

[NRAS @NRAS_UK]

"Until I was diagnosed, I thought that ‘arthritis’ was just something that old people get.”
Until you or someone close to you is diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), unfortunately, this is most people’s perception of the disease.

It is always an exciting day for Team ACR when the abstracts are published! Thank you to the ~2,000+ presenters for sharing your research. We are honored to showcase your work at #ACR21.

[Matthew Katz, MD 🇺🇸🟦 @subatomicdoc]

Today I had back to back experiences in which patients for long term follow up had ongoing symptoms, explainable if others took time to mull it over rather than fit into a 15 minute visit.

Active listening is so important, even if you can't do something to 'solve' it #survonc

reminds me of what a scholarship participant Erin said in #RheumDay Zoom: not everyday is a yes day #rheum

[Lene Andersen @TheSeatedView]

Usually, it takes me most of the days realize that I feel too crappy to get anything done. My goal is to learn to recognize days like that so I don't waste precious energy on trying and instead, just heal so the next day is better.

FINCH1 RCT of filgotinib (JAKi) in RA vs. PLBO and ADA, @ARD_BMJ

Better ACR20 wk12 (77% vs 50% PLBO, NNT~4); small infxn rsk and no MACE signal

Held up @US_FDA d/t
sperm count concerns; may come to market next year?

See pics for other JAKi; network meta analysis anyone?

[Mike Putman @EBRheum]

Shots fired! Strong letter & rebuttals in @NEJM re:UPA vs ABA RCT

I covered this on the podcast & agree w/both sides:

1. DAS28-CRP was a silly primary outcome
2. CDAI also looked better for UPA

Moral of the story: don’t play shenanigans with outcome measures!

Not all researchers have the opportunity to receive expert advice on their #clinical research projects from experienced researchers. This led us to set up the EULAR #ConsultationService.
