Bumble bees may look clumsy and goofy hovering above a flower, but don’t be deceived: They’re among the hot rods of the insect world and able to fly 22 kilometers per hour.

Even while hovering, their powerful wing muscles generate a lot of heat. Like any high-performance vehicle, the bees have ways to keep their motors cool—and a recent study shows just how effective one of these methods can be.

As a bumble bee hovers in place, the breeze it generates can lower the insect’s body temperature by 5°C, researchers report.

It has been a relatively quiet week on the Sun, with the two M-class flares erupting off the Sun’s western limb (right side from SDO’s view) and not producing much impact on Earth. However, a large active region will soon be rotating into Earth’s view — you can see it toward the end of this video emerging from the eastern limb (left side from SDO's view). Keep an eye out in the coming week for potential solar activity!

As with previous technological waves, we know that work will be disrupted (although it's still unclear exactly how). Hopefully, we will both individually and collectively manage to adapt and thrive.
