Trans-identified male Petra De Sutter (Paul), who has been the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium since 2020, and was formerly a member of the European Parliament, gave a TEDx talk in Brussels in 2018 praising Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" as a vision of a future to aspire to.

In the talk, titled "Tele-Babies," De Sutter, a former gynecologist, praises gene-editing as a moral imperative and quotes Julian Savulescu, who has co-authored an academic paper on "why eugenic selection is preferable to enhancement."

"In the world of Aldous Huxley, procreation is not something that is connected with sexuality or with relationship or family-building anymore. You just go to a clinic or a factory, if you wish, and you give your gametes.

After so many months, you can pick up your child, which has been genetically enhanced and designed according to the features that you want."

De Sutter has previously been accused of a conflict of interest when campaigning to alter laws to permit the surrogacy industry in Europe. He has openly profited from surrogacy practices in the hospital where he worked as a gynecologist, University Hospital of Ghent, and co-developed a surrogacy clinic in India called Seeds of Innocence.
