A 25-year old married couple earning $150k will pay over $3k more in federal income tax in 2026 than a 65-year old married couple with the same income.
(note: assumes no social security - 65-year old couple is waiting to age 70 to get max benefit).
This is a fair tax policy?
Bloomberg: “Blackrock Inc. slashed the value of a private loan to zero just three months after assessing it at 100 cents on the dollar, marking the second sudden wipeout to recently hit its private-credit division.”
Maybe it’s a trend.
.@gokulr is one of the most prolific product builders and investors of the last 20 years.
He helped build the core ads and product businesses at Google, Facebook, Square, and DoorDash, working directly with many of this generation's best founders and CEOs. He's also invested in more than 700 companies giving him an unusually broad view into how products are built and scaled.
Gokul has an incredible ability to give precise and prescriptive advice on how to build products, particularly in AI, and he explains his thinking so clearly that you come away knowing exactly how to apply it.
We talk about why judgment is the only thing he believes is truly AI-proof, why Zendesk and Slack are more exposed than Salesforce and NetSuite, and what AI-native startups must do to move customers and their data off legacy systems.
We cover everything he's learned from building the most important ads businesses, including the only three ways an ad business can make money, and why ChatGPT may be even more powerful than Google or Facebook for highly targeted ads.
He also shares inside stories from Larry and Sergey, Zuck, Jack Dorsey, and Tony Xu, about how each of them approaches product, design, and communication.
Enjoy!

First Hawley (who doesn’t own stock) explains why this bill is so important.
“86% of Americans say members of Congress should not be able to buy and sell shares of stock.”
“We’ve seen the former speaker of the house make millions of dollars of profits.”
“We’ve seen members of both parties, I’m sad to say, be investigated for their stock trades.”
“And the reason for all of this is, that quite frankly, members of this body are privy to information that the normal person just is not.”
As promised, here are the names of 303 young men and women who just received a work ethic scholarship from The mikeroweWORKS Foundation. A total of $2.4 million will be distributed among them, to help pay for the training they need to excel in their chosen field. I'll circle back in a day or two to acknowledge the generosity of our many donors, including the people on this page, but tonight, please join me in congratulating this year's recipients, and more importantly, in thanking them for choosing to learn a skill that’s in demand.
As you may have heard, America’s workforce has had a math problem, and we've struggled with it for nearly a decade. For every 5 five American workers who will retire this year, 2 workers replace them. This 5:2 ratio of retirees to new workers has been particularly devastating to the construction trades, and to skilled labor overall. Obviously, that math is not sustainable.
As I type this, hundreds of thousands of college graduates with billions of dollars in student loans can’t find work in their chosen field, but remain untrained for countless opportunities that actually exist. That's a national tragedy, and before long, I suspect it'll be a matter of national security. To say it another way, the skills gap is real, and if we don’t do something to reinvigorate the trades and make a more persuasive case for the millions of good jobs that don’t require a four-year degree, we’re going to see a truly unprecedented shortage of electricians, plumbers, welders, carpenters, masons, welders, linemen, and countless other critical jobs that are going begging. And that’s going to impact all of us.
To those who applied who don’t see their names on this list, don’t be discouraged. We had more qualified applicants this year than ever before, but alas, our resources are not unlimited. Please apply again next year, and please don't forget to explore the many other scholarship programs currently available.
As for the rest of you, thanks for sharing and for supporting mikeroweWORKS over the years. If you didn’t see yesterday’s press release, it’s attached, and worth a read. Thanks to everyone here who proofread it!
Mike
America's retirement problem in a nutshell:
1) too little saved (remember this $107k is a mean, not a median)
2) it's not growing (in nominal terms!)
3) while cost of living is up over 19%+ since 2020 (according to govt numbers, which likely underreport) https://t.co/VYexS1AgHQ.
Dear Parents,
As summer break approaches, we understand that you may be looking for ways for your child to engage in meaningful activities and give back to their community. We are pleased to offer our 50 Yard Challenge as an excellent opportunity for your child to do just that.
The challenge begins with a simple sign-up process, after which your child will receive a white shirt and start mowing 50 free lawns for the elderly, disabled, single parents, and veterans in their city. Additionally, the challenge includes activities such as raking leaves, snow shoveling, and picking up trash.
As your child progresses and mows every 10 lawns, they earn a new shirt. The orange shirt is earned after 10 lawns, green shirt after 20 lawns, blue shirt after 30 lawns, red shirt after 40 lawns, and a black shirt after mowing 50 lawns. Upon completion of the challenge by mowing 50 lawns, they earn a brand new lawn mower, weed eater, and blower !
We encourage you to consider this opportunity for your child to make a positive impact in their community while also developing valuable skills .

@charliebilello Historical home values, annual mortgage payments, and mortgage payments as a percentage of income? How different Is 8% in the 90s than 6% now?
2 years ago: 30-yr mortgage rate was 2.87% & average new home price in the US was $405k.
Today: 30-yr mortgage rate is 6.02% & average new home price is $547k.
Result: $28k increase in down payment (assuming 20% down) and 96% increase in monthly payment (from $1,343 to $2,628).
