Making Surrey Safer - water-based life-guarding, training teachers + sports coaches, parents and public in rescue skills; competitions, DofE Awards, and GCSE-PE
Most cities were built around rivers. Upstream was a source of drinking water; downstream a way of removing sewage. Today they are a place where people still drink... But please don't get carried away!
These are tremendous opportunities... In the field of drowning prevention, what would you study, who would you visit, and what are the innovations? Get thinking, get researching, get applying...
We'll fund you for 2 months learning from the innovators in your field anywhere in the world with a life-changing Churchill Fellowship. Open to all UK citizens. Apply by 22/11 https://t.co/OwXRKy6vg2 #ChurchillFellowship@ChurchillFship#innovators
Echo that about dogs and their owners. IF your dog can't seem to get out, it probably needs you to stand where it can and call it nicely to you. Screaming at it from a steep bank is not helping!
Five shouts in four days - three involving searching riverbanks for vulnerable people, and two involving dogs in the river (if we don't rescue dogs, we may have to rescue their owners). All skilfully launched by newly qualified shore crew Claire and Chris. Well done all!
An excellent tribute to a Royal patron and a fitting summary of the steady evolution of the Institution... (not forgetting too it's international role today)...
Our Chief Executive Mark Dowie reflects on the 70 years’ service Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II gave to the RNLI as our Patron, from naming five lifeboats to opening our volunteer training college in Poole.
Two shouts last night for volunteer crew. First one at 7.12pm to assist @MPSRichmond search for missing vulnerable person near Teddington Lock, followed at 9.10pm by call to assist @ChiswickRNLI in search for person in the water near Isleworth Ait. Both with positive outcomes.
This #WorldHumanitarianDay let’s honour all those who have lost their lives serving humanity.
In 2022, WHO has recorded 651 attacks on health. Health workers & humanitarians are #NotATarget.
#ItTakesAVillage to serve those in need.
Well done, Greg. Great to see you are able to finish the swim. Our friends @KingstonMvs are keen to wave you in. Hope to hear some updates today. Keep safe and thanks for your support.
He’s back.
Greg is about to get back in the Thames and finish #WhyteWater to raise awareness and money for the vital work done by the @RLSSUK and @RNLI every day.
This brilliant feature on Ch 4 emphasise the importance of water safety education for the group most at risk of drowning - 14/15 year old boys. This is why we ran sessions for year 9 and 10 students in three Kingston and Richmond Schools with @RLSSSRY and @AlbanyOutdoors
A Dispersal Zone is in place
A Section 35 Dispersal has been authorised by Chief Inspector Scammell for the areas outlined on the map – Teddington Lock , Richmond Green, & Terrace Gardens (Richmond) from 1200hrs Friday 22nd July – 1200hrs Sunday 24th July.
An amazing day spent learning how to float and help someone in distress in the river!
A massive thank you to the @rlssuk, @metpolice_uk @mpskingston@mvslondon @londonfirebrigade @kingstonfirestation for making this happen to keep our young people safe!
We were delighted that @MPSKingston and @LFBKingston were able to attend the final practical water safety session today in a series of three that we have run with our partners @AlbanyOutdoors and @RLSSSRY
@gpwhyte@RLSSUK@RNLI A real shame but what a brilliant attempt and great to raise attention to the crucial drowning prevention messages. Thank you and we hope to see you in the Surrey Thames in the near future. PS really good modelling of stopping when you need to.
Thank you for spreading the word, @WokingBeat. We shall be at @AlbanyOutdoors today with @KingstonMvs teaching 14+yr olds how to have a good time safely in the river... Hot weather = too tempting!
🌞As tempting as it might be, please take care if you are going to have a swim 🏊♀️in lakes and open water across Surrey over the next few days - here are some top tips from @RLSSUK
