1. Joseph Morgan is a better actor that can give a more nuanced portrayal

2. Klaus is a true anti hero. He can have his lil redemption while still staying true to who he is. The characters don’t have to make excuses for him cause he’s an asshole & he knows it.
Damon, however, has a whole list of ppl that just .. forget what he does / actively defend him even tho it doesn’t make sense in the narrative. He tries to do good specifically for Elena but it never lasts. He’s extremely reactive and whiny

1) joseph morgan can act - always helps
2) klaus was an anti hero, even in his own show he was never a “good guy” he was always seen as a villain; whereas damon was treated like a protagonist
3) klaus had 1000 years of reasons to be evil
