There are more than 30 '2020 in Review' articles on the @RTE website, covering a wide range of topics from the Covid-19 pandemic to politics, economics, technology, aviation, crime, the arts and video games.
None of them mention climate change.
Embarrassing for @RTENews that it's been left to a politician to ask the obvious questions RTÉ should have asked instead of just broadcasting DAA's bullshit unchallenged. @KevinBakhurst

A cap on passenger numbers will 'hurt' @DublinAirport sustainability ambitions? Scratching my head to understand this, so I've written to CEO Kenny Jacobs asking him to explain himself.
The operator of Dublin Airport says if a decision to increase the cap on passenger numbers is made quickly, it could prevent the number of flights in and out of the airport in 2024 and 2025 being reduced | Read more: https://t.co/YmRgLrE17R
Why is this not getting more internat attention @nytimesworld@LFFriedman@billmckibben? Dutch people have been blocking a highway into The Hague daily to protest €37 billion fossil fuel subsidies for > 2 wks. 10,000s arrested, police violence in the city of international peace.
It's easy to blame cartoonish villains like Murdoch but Ireland's domestic media (including @RTE) have also done untold damage by promoting climate denial and disinformation.

Columns without any data or evidence that isn't "things that annoy me" might be fun and flashy but, let’s face it, they’re not really columns https://t.co/oJDmQP3cYv
"Nobody in the media debated the need to dedicate resources to helping audiences understand #Covid and then playing the story big. Most outlets ran multiple Covid stories every day, which helped even casual news consumers understand that something important was happening."
All of this. Now please 🙏
The media needs to cover the climate crisis as seriously as it covered Covid | Mark Hertsgaard and Kyle Pope https://t.co/iRYjZ7Fvpm
More power to the data centre guy for leveraging his weather posts into a national platform to oppose climate action, but media orgs that invite him to talk about how reducing emissions won't save us from the impacts of climate change should point out his conflict of interest.

@Noel_in_Ballon We have one of the most carbon-intensive electricity grids in Europe so while data centres here use less energy than elsewhere the environmental impact is greater.

@conormulv If he's on the radio advocating for the pharma industry then any conflict of interest should be noted, yes. I don't understand what you're trying to say about the dairy farm.
@saloreilly An employee doesn't have a financial interest in their industry?
I'm not aware of any conflict of interest John Gibbons has but I'd agree that any conflict of interest should be called out.
@saloreilly I think you might be overestimating how many @lstwrd listeners know your background. Either way, it's standard practice for journalists to mention when someone has a financial stake in the subject.
@mytimetospeakup@BiffAndFinn Nothing at all. But if he's on the radio arguing that reducing emissions won't save us from floods, people should be aware of his day job.
@saloreilly@BiffAndFinn@lstwrd And industry lobbyists in every country use the same argument that if they reduce emissions the emissions will just move elsewhere. Under the Paris Agreement, we're responsible for reducing our own emissions and other countries have to reduce theirs.
@saloreilly@BiffAndFinn I never said you had anything to hide, my point was that @lstwrd should have acknowledged your financial interest. Most listeners don't follow you here and don't know your background.
