AI research is converging on a major finding: language models are a great substrate for all AI applications.
This feels like a HUGE deal.
Some examples:
In software we often beat our chests to @pmarca’s “Software is eating the world”, but software is a tiny economic shift compared to climate change. 1/10
Thinking the world is both doomed and unfixable, almost as a point of pride, is a terrible mindset.
I suspect our educational institutions are instilling it, but even if not, they should counteract it.
Happy to announce that our paper: Optimizing Reusable Knowledge for Continual Learning via Metalearning ( https://t.co/AWV2GIlFXm ) was accepted in #NeurIPS2021 Congrats @alainraymonds@IALab_UC !!
AI is going to change a lot of things. The world is going to get phenomenally wealthy.
I wrote about what I think will happen, and an idea for how we could change our economic system in light of it:

We are excited to announce that our first #LatinX in Computer Vision Workshop will be held virtually at @CVPR in June 2021! #LatinX researchers and engineers will have an opportunity to connect and exchange ideas. Please check out more at: https://t.co/WcQfcPzJSg #CVPR2021
First 2 lectures' slides/notes on machine learning systems design are up! Covering:
- Batch vs. online prediction, edge vs. cloud, offline vs. online learning
- Multiple-objective optimization
- When & when not to use ML
...
Feedback much appreciated!

Some areas for huge technological progress in the next 5 years:
*General-purpose AI
*Energy (particularly fission and fusion)
*VR/AR (gets to "real trend" phase)
*Bio (meaningful progress ending many diseases, at least one big gain for longevity, psychedelic medicine)
*Silicon
We are honored to have Oriol Vinyals as one of our keynote speakers in the #LXAI Workshop at #NeurIPS2020. Do not miss his intervention: "A Road towards the Chain Rule".
The final version of our @ACMTiiS is finally available "Algorithmic and HCI Aspects for Explaining
Recommendations of Artistic Images” with @NevadaStreets@PabloMessinaG@indonoso_ https://t.co/wItADHrXs8 we study the interlink (pre-print https://t.co/rwUDPLEytG)

Are you a computer scientist/engineer/maker interested in ocean & climate problems? Do you want to collaborate with oceanographers/climatologists on hard technical problems if there is funding?
Please retweet if yes! You will help us make a case to @NSF#CS#ML#Oceans#climate
