Championships aren’t built on speeches.
They’re built on habits, repeated over time.
When you talk about standards, you’re setting expectations.
When you live them, you’re building culture.
Greatness usually looks boring before it looks special.
“Greatness is boring… there was a lot of boring days in the gym just working on my one dribble pull ups.” — Anthony Edwards
The work nobody sees creates the results everybody sees.
Marcus Freeman said, “I’m not here to be your friend.”
- I’m here to push you.

Dan Campbell on the difference between good vs. great vs. elite players in the NFL.
“It's mindset. It's willpower...They really believe that the little things add up to the big things and nothing is too small. Everything matters.”
Talent can give you an opportunity, but an unwillingness to be outprepared, outworked, or outlasted is often what allows you to make the most of it.

Urban Meyer says his Ohio State teams didn’t set a goal of winning the National Championship because the goal was too abstract and depended on too many things they couldn’t control
“We’re not a big goal team. You won’t see around here, like, ‘Win the National Championship.’ That’s too abstract. There’s too many variables involved.”
“And what happens if you lose one early? Do you just not play? Do you give up?”
“So what we do, it’s Nine Strong. I want to maximize every unit in our team. It’s a militaristic model that we use around here.”
“What’s our goal every year? To be Nine Strong. And that means every unit within our team — what we call small-unit cohesion — every unit performs at their maximum capacity.”
“The way we recruit around here, the great players we have, if we’re performing at maximum capacity, you’re probably not going to lose.”
“So our goal, you won’t see, ‘Let’s go win the National Title. Let’s go do this,’ because there’s too many injuries and there’s too many, you’re counting on committees to pick you to go play in games.”
“But it’s all fulfilling if we can look in the mirror and say, ‘You know what? We were Nine Strong. We maximized who we are.’”
“I learned so much in the last probably seven, eight, nine years of my career that we don’t talk so much about the end-all. We’re talking about how to get there.”
Winning tests your humility.
Losing tests your confidence.
Both test your consistency.
Take the lesson, leave the emotion, and come back tomorrow committed to the same standard.
Dick Vermeil said, "The number one concept is to make sure people know you care."
"If you want to win over a person, first you have to win over their heart."
Great leaders know that you coach people, not players.
They take the time to care, connect, and influence.
Worth 40 seconds:
Kobe's epic explanation of the three costs every great leader must be willing to pay. ⬇️🔥
🌲 Leadership is often lonely. The higher you climb, the fewer people can make the decisions for you. Solitude isn't a sign you're on the wrong path, it is often the cost of carrying responsibility. If you need constant approval, you'll eventually trade conviction for comfort.
⚔️ Avoiding confrontation doesn't preserve culture, it erodes it. Every difficult conversation you postpone quietly becomes permission for the behavior to continue... Leaders don't confront because they enjoy conflict. They confront because clarity is kinder than confusion, and short-term DISCOMFORT prevents long-term DYSFUNCTION.
📏 Accountability is an act of belief. Holding someone to a high standard is one of the clearest ways to communicate that you think they're capable of reaching it. The easiest leader to follow is the one who expects little. The most transformational leader is the one willing to endure uncomfortable moments so people can become who they're capable of being.
The moments that make leadership feel the loneliest are often the same moments that make your leadership matter the most. 💯

Cori Close (@CoachCoriClose) shares a must-listen message on what it takes to be special.
"Do you want special? Then you better get used to hard."
"Tell me one person in this life, in any area of life, that did something special that didn't embrace hard. That didn't embrace the adversity."
Success is earned in the struggle.
"It's the people who embrace hard. Perseverance. All of those things that need to happen."
Then she got honest about her own leadership:
"Get ready to push that. Get ready to take that on for your players first so that they can see the role modeling of someone who faces hard, who embraces hard."
Leaders go first.
You can't ask your team to embrace hard if you're not willing to do it yourself.
You have to be willing to embrace adversity.
Adversity isn't a roadblock - it's the path.

Nick Saban shares one of the best definitions of discipline and the two questions that determine your success.
"Discipline defined: Do what you're supposed to do, when you're supposed to do it, the way it's supposed to get done."
"Do the right thing, the right way, the right time, all the time."
Then he talks about self-discipline and the two questions to ask yourself:
"But I'm talking about self-discipline."
"We answer hundreds of questions every day that come down to these 2 things."
(1) "Here's something I know I'm supposed to do that I really don't want to do. Can you make yourself do it?"
(2) "And then over here - there's something you know you're not supposed to do, but you want to do it. Can you keep yourself from it?"
The willpower battle that you fight every day.
Self-discipline is choosing what you need over what you want in this moment..
"But we're talking about feeling versus choice."
"You're gonna do what you feel like doing or you're gonna choose to do the things you need to do to be successful. And there's a difference in that."
To achieve your goals, you need to choose daily discipline over motivation.
It means prioritizing your goals and what you want for the temporary discomfort of today.

Being elite starts with taking ownership.
• Owning the details.
• Owning the process.
• Owning the standard.
