Across America, Jews Prepare to Mark a Once-in-250-Years Shabbat

When President Trump signed a proclamation inviting Jewish Americans to observe a national Shabbat on May 15-16, Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum of Baltimore had one immediate reaction. "It coincides with Armed Services Day," said the military chaplain. "It's a double reason for our community to come together."

From Florida to the Arizona desert, Jewish communities are marking the first time in American history that a sitting president has called for the nation to honor Shabbat — one that also happens to fall on the very Shabbat the Rebbe designated, forty years ago, as a global Shabbat of Unity.
