@bilalmahmood@KimChiSpicey@carlatcole@loomdoop appreciate you trying to stay focused on policy. This isn't the worst of what I see (Wiener gets a lot worse). I really wish the tone of the debate was better.
> The increase would be funded by โallocating a portion of future property tax growth every yearโ to the fund
that's a great framing & great idea
hell yes! https://t.co/RysFsn0wXP
first time Melgar got my attention, didn't know she was working on this but she also voted for family zoning โ not bad!
@micsolana@zachweinberg Trump's corruption has created a lot of anger. "Let's go back to the status quo" has started to feel like being suckers to democrats. I don't have a great solution for this
@DadMurdos@Oakmanbearcow@politicalmath I think those are good & reasonable reforms.
It's gonna be a while, gestation crates are still legal in over 40 states. I'd encourage you to vote with your feet in the meantime by buying fish or non-ff meat. You don't have to go full vegan.
@DadMurdos@Oakmanbearcow@politicalmath I'm confused. We agree killing to eat is part of nature and morally ok (I'm with you here). We agree factory farming is bad. 99% of meat is in fact factory farmed.
What would you have us do about it? Should we take any action at all?
@micsolana@Aella_Girl Even if meat is far less cruel (it is), the analogy works. 9 billion animals factory farmed per year in the US. We don't need to guilt meat eaters, but I do respect those who abstain on principle.
@DadMurdos@Oakmanbearcow@politicalmath FWIW I don't judge you for this. It's really hard to talk about moral beliefs without appearing judgy, but I think we have to do it anyway if any progress is to be made
@DadMurdos@Oakmanbearcow@politicalmath Even if it was a matter of need (debatable- beans and rice are cheaper), you still have to acknowledge it's a moral issue. In the same way as stealing to survive is a moral issue
Activists do focus on factory farming; this attempt in Solano county lost. People just don't care.
She's right and people losing their minds in the replies have too thin skin. Nobody said it's equally as bad as owning slaves. Just do your minute of self reflection and move on
a great test of "would you have been chill with owning slaves, if you'd been born into a slave-owning family" is whether or not you're vegetarian today
