Tutor @AccessProjectUK / Group Director Performance & Planning @MFTnhs / Used to have more to say here so need some new hobbies! My own views @RachelBurnham
The two are pretty linked ime. We are creating work “churn” by responding to an ever shorter data cycle and trying to influence it. Leads to more reactive work and less proactive. Leads to less local ownership.
Not really the done thing to tweet any more is it, but where else does one put one’s thoughts?! Reflecting this morning on the increase in regulatory staff per provider set out in the Darzi report and the fact that we have much more real (or near) time data flow than pre2020
Tell you what’s a far bigger part of my life now than I’d ever imagined? BINS.
I have four (4). I have a calendar appt to remember to take the right ones out at the right time. I think about “if it’s a good time to go to the tip” *constantly*.
First time I’d heard this quote in @JamesTitcombe HSJ briefing today. Couldn’t agree more. In my world of performance, I try to not follow the typical course of “scary meeting with the DoP & now I must do x/y/z”. I sometimes wonder if it makes me seem weak, but it tends to work!
@jamie_wallis Seriously though! I never really thought about it or believed the clichés but I’ve genuinely noticed a difference in “vibe”. And I LOVE London and my former colleagues 😂 (originally from South Yorkshire….)
What a lovely week! Hating feeling like I don’t know anyone or “how to get stuff done”, but that’s been more than offset by the sheer welcoming nature of everyone I’ve met (ahem - the North) and the potential of the work to do.
I’ve even decided to come back next week too.
The @AccessProjectUK is looking for more volunteers to help tutor their growing numbers of students age 14-16 as they head towards tertiary education for an hour a week online.
Can you help?

GCSE exams are over and we hope this year's cohort are proud of their hard work!
Why not do something amazing and help a student from a disadvantaged background to reach their potential next year? Join @AccessProjectUK as a volunteer tutor: https://t.co/wf3ulTZj7w
Hope for the future a common topic today. It was lovely to do my weekly @AccessProjectUK tutorial earlier this week and for my tutee to tell me they got a 9 in their mocks and one of the best scores in their year ✨⭐️. She will go far!
2) managing and leading through radical / genuinely major change is probably a skill we need to invest more in PDQ across NHS management ranks and 3) there was def a mix up of names for me to be a member - perhaps the…other Burnham?! 🤔
Can’t think of a better group of minds to spend Election Eve w/ than those which make up @TheKingsFund General Advisory Council. Left with 3 key reflections: 1) when it comes to “what must be done around health & care post election” we know most of the “what” & less of the “how”
