@NickKehoe13#MUS2011W21 This is a great perspective! There are many artists that I have grown up listening to without the knowledge that they are Canadian. CanCon can help share and promote this content, all across the nation.
@eahiscock#MUS2011W21 This is a great point! I use Spotify much more than I listen to the radio. I have noticed that there are certain playlists made to promote Canadian artists. Perhaps this is a new way to support and recognize Canadian content.
#MUS2011W21 There is a lot to consider when deciding whether there should be a quota of Canadian content. A quota could be helpful in sharing and promoting Canadian content, however, it may limit the diversity of music that international artists bring to our radios.
@edevilla15 This is a great point! Recorded songs are very easy to access, as they can be found on almost any device. As well, they usually have a lower cost than concerts. But, this should not take away from the desire to see live music. #MUS2011W21
@hjmmadden I agree with you! Live performances have been enjoyed and celebrated for a very long time. Yes, recorded music is often easier to access on a daily basis, however it cannot replace the experience of a concert, coffeehouse, or festival. #MUS2011W21
I do not entirely agree with Wald. Recorded music is very accessible. However, I don’t think this means it is preferred over a live band. Making music with friends, and attending concerts and coffeehouses are all things that are enjoyed by youth today. #MUS2011W21
@ekphelan This is a great perspective. We must acknowledge and give credit to the original artists for their work. We cannot forget the mistakes that have been made through "schlock" rock. We must remember the impact of cultural theft so that this is not repeated in the future.
@KaceyHutton4 This is a good point! It is so important to give credit to the original artists. By accrediting the original artists, you are acknowledging the history of the music and the cultural roots of the songs.
When arranging music from other cultures, it should be done in a respectful and knowledgable manner. Though Boone may have arranged this music in a way that gained more popularity than the originals, he did it without preserving the history, which is unacceptable. #MUS2011W21
@DanielWNeill1 @phoebe_bridgers@KateBushMusic@soundgarden I’ve been listening to the soundtrack from The Greatest Showman recently! I’m also loving Taylor Swift’s new albums and Maggie Rogers’ album titled Heard It In A Past Life!
@dshortall11#MUS2011W21 This is a great point! Ray Charles' use of a breaking voice definitely adds emotion that could not have been conveyed otherwise. This technique, when paired with his lyrics, certainly contributes to the intense emotion perceived by the music's listeners.
@_emilymorrissey I completely agree that the breaking voice helped in crafting a unique vocal style. When listening to "I've Got a Woman," I immediately noticed the similarities it has with "Gold Digger." It is interesting to analyze the effects that artists like Ray have on music. #MUS2011W21
I believe Ray Charles used a breaking voice to create individuality. This allowed him to stand out from other musicians whilst seeming unique. As well, it is a memorable element that has the potential to contribute to popularity and success in the music industry. #MUS2011W21
@nathandunne31 Very true! Spotify has allowed me to be able to find and play my own public playlists on other people’s devices. On top of that, Bluetooth headphones have allowed me to listen to music playing from my phone in a completely different room. #MUS2011W21
@bonin_jake This is a great point! Music is so readily available today. Instead of being required to buy all the individual songs and albums we want to listen to, we can find them online for free. The internet has helped people to discover and enjoy a wide variety of new art. #MUS2011W21
Spotify has greatly impacted the way I listen to music. It has allowed me to discover new songs and artists by making me playlists based on my preferences. The opportunity to create collaborative playlists with friends is also a great way to bond while sharing music. #MUS2011W21
