@MartinSLewis Martin you also said £140/wk was a tiny amount to live on and it’s actually £77/wk. Please highlight how horrendously low this is in line with other benefits. The inability to work ( even to the threshold) is impossible for some carers) #CarersWeek2023
@Andie_Ellwood It’s the sacrificing of your entire life, relationships, aspects, career, ambitions for that person with very little outside support. Of course you do it through love but I’d challenge any other parent of children that will most likely fly the nest to question that.
When my daughter hits 18 she will be able to claim benefits without looking for work.
What does she even contribute? Well, only love, courage, optimism, hope, peace, joy, kindness- I agree these are not values the Telegraph recognises. #disabilitytwitter#HateSpeech#Shameful
Got to love the media’s visual representation of what a carer is and does.
Look at this classic👇🙄
The reality would be empty cupboards, antidepressant bottles on the shelf, in the shower crying your heart out, black holes for eyes & a look of worry for the future.
That’s us.
📣 This harmful narrative about disabled people must end.
It’s time to ditch the 'burden' rhetoric for good.
Coverage like this is irresponsible. It has a direct impact on how disabled people see themselves and how others see them.
@PackedLunchC4 No totally unfair, complex issue, more support not less. Work together to sort the contradictory dietary advice out. Restrictive diets do not work long term.
@BornatRightTime So sorry you both had to go through this 💔I had exactly the same situation with my son 4years ago. I’m sad things haven’t improved @NeilCouling
#unpaidcarers in #leeds - there is still time to complete our annual survey. Deadline is the end of the year. At my last check we had 485 responses. Wow! Would be amazing to get 500+ responses. You could win an M&S voucher too
@NeilCouling making positive changes? Claiming UC for disabled people and their families is still a gruelling process! Been waiting nearly a year for my daughter's health assessment, she is non verbal, non mobile and severely learning disabled. Not enough proof?
