Research has shown that children’s ability to manage their full range of emotions effectively, also known as self-regulation—is one of the most important factors for success in school, work, and relationships in the long term.

That we venerate and enable elite schools to be the gatekeepers of wealth, privilege, power, prestige, social status seems equally, if not more, problematic
NC's updated Needs Assessment highlighting the needs of children, families, & providers is out! This graphic illustrates the decline of staff throughout the pandemic only to return when NC began compensation grants. #livingwage See all the data here: https://t.co/pHYORQxf6e
“In our constitutional order, children’s freedoms take priority over parental freedoms. Given the overriding importance of schooling to democracy, our laws elevate and protect the rights of all children to learn and to grow as citizens.”

In new study from @UW_ILABS published in @SfNJournals, researchers found that parent-infant conversational turns link to white-matter growth (myelination) at age 2, + lots more. @KCCompton reports for @EarlyLearnNatn. https://t.co/apG8s2WCAT @LENAEarlytalk

Invest in "school choice" or teachers?
PASSED: "Charter School Stimulus Fund" $400K grants to startups + increased enrollment & comparable funding
REJECTED: Teacher raises (instead $2,300 that "will likely be nullified" by health ins. premium increases)

If you want to enact a sweeping private school voucher program, do NOT let the people vote on it. Instead, purchase the state legislature. Here's Betsy DeVos back in 2016 foreshadowing what is playing out in [insert state] right now https://t.co/M8m13oPFWD
The years of early childhood are unique and consequential in and of themselves… not just preparation for something more important to come. Failure to honor the developmental needs of young children will never be a path to better outcomes.
Is #SchoolChoice a "get out of jail free" card? New study shows school choice lottery win lowers likelihood of future criminality for winners, but increases likelihood for non-applicant neighbors, leading to overall INCREASE in arrests & jail time https://t.co/4obGe4cAcr #edchat
So true, this slogan has never made sense to me because in no case are vouchers "funding students." In all cases, public funds are subsidizing systems of education, either public or private, that's the choice. And if private then we are "funding moneyed interests" not public good
Whatever system(s) of education emerges from this inflection point, it will be “public” (free, open to all, democratically governed, geared toward common good) only if we meet this moment w/ a political/social movement to strengthen, not just defend, public schools.

Recommended weekend listening: a case hurtling towards the Supreme Court seeks to define charter schools once and for all as private. @DrPrestonGreen and @SchlFinance101 on why this is such a big deal https://t.co/YQPRjna3yL
