@addy_2777 @mav3rik81@GigaBasedDad They built Hadrians Wall more or less as a boundary fortification. Then they built the Antonine Wall to prevent raids from the north. The reason Rome stopped in Scotland is the same as Germania: the risk/reward was too lopsided to make it worth a full scale campaign.
@addy_2777 @mav3rik81@GigaBasedDad The Romans went much further into Scotland than Hadrians Wall even after it was built. There was nothing the Scots could do about stopping the Romans if the Romans actually wanted to take the land.
@siegnant@gmiller The West exports jobs for cheap labor and automates. It is home to a large amount of white collar corporate work. However, automation has made the middle class diminish and soon AI will do the same to the upper-middle. Stratification is going to worsen where automation dominates.
@siegnant@gmiller We're not talking about today, we're talking about the future.
Lots of jobs have been replaced by automation. Whether this is good or bad is a matter of perspective. Personally, I think humans need to work to have meaning. Taking employment away does not create utopia.
@siegnant@gmiller You are very naive. Androids are a military project. Removing the expenses of training, paying, feeding, boarding, moving, humans around is a big deal. Unfortunately, when a human goes haywire, you can fight back. Are you going to fight a 300lbs hunk of metal?
@siegnant@gmiller You are as naรฏve as those building androids in labs. There is a difference between technology that aids and assists and technology that replaces humans all-together. AI and android robotics are very dangerous and we are far too lax on their development.
@gmiller In Dune, it's an "analog" universe where "thinking machines" are illegal, so there's an emphasis on eugenics to create humans with super abilities. Star Trek, androids and cyborgs exist.
@RealYeyoZa Sorry, but it's Islam.
The Romans kept peace here for centuries. It was relatively peaceful as a Jewish and Christian region before Islam rose out of the Arabian Peninsula.
The world has a major religious problem, and for whatever reason, Europe has been scared to fight back.
@Sargon_of_Akkad Logistically, no one wants to weaken the military with a civil war. Not only is it likely a large portion of the military would disobey such orders, military leaders know it would open the country up to invasion post-war. It makes no sense to even contemplate.
@gmiller@Sargon_of_Akkad It's likely most Generals/Admirals/Chiefs of Staff would disobey orders to violate their oath to the Constitution. The military is not an arm of the Executive.
@gmiller Let them discredit themselves. Let her make a mockery of herself. It gives those who for years have seen the problems with this ideology the fuel to begin to deinstitutionalize the material.
