I'm happy to report that hearing a single talk about how eating less meat 🍔 helps reduce global warming and improves health can lead to a modest but perhaps permanent reduction in meat eating #climate 1/4 🧵

"My country only emits 1% of global emissions. What it does makes no difference".
It's a common claim.
But add up the emissions of countries that emit less than 2% each (a 'negligible amount') – they emit more than China.
Imagine if they all decided to do nothing.
Producing sustainable aviation fuel to supply the UK’s #NetZero ambitions would require enormous quantities of agricultural land or renewable electricity to keep flying at today’s levels. Read our new briefing released today: https://t.co/HR6MY0Echr
Oxfordshire's @RadleyCollege has chosen STAR EV's Capella Work Machines to replace its current fleet of utility vehicles

Hugely informative thread about what we choose to eat and its climate impact
Your food choices have a big impact on #LandUse and #Farming emissions
Choosing to eat more plants helps a lot…
As Michael Pollan says: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."

It's Nature Day at #COP26
There are many win-win solutions for climate, land use and biodiversity.
Most relate to food: what we choose to eat and how we produce it.
Here's some of our work from @OurWorldInData on these topics 🧵👇
"We cannot negotiate with the melting point of ice"
The #cryosphere is warming much faster than other parts of the globe
Climate policy now will dictate the fate of the Arctic.
In turn, the Arctic will influence all of our #climate for many generations…

Out now- @iccinet's first annual State of the Cryosphere Report!
Current inadequate climate pledges will result in melting polar ice sheets, vanishing glaciers, and thawing permafrost “essentially permanent on human timescales”

China🇨🇳 updated goals:
- carbon neutrality by 2060
By 2030:
- CO2 emissions peak
- CO2 emissions / unit GDP down by 65%+ from 2005
- non-fossil fuels for energy up to ~25%, wind and solar 1.2 billion kW
- forest stock up by 6 billion m³ from 2005 #COP26
