I’m a none and I go to church quite often, but it's impossible to get my wife and kidults to come with me.

@ViewfromtheH @DrCalumMiller You could also look at states with legal systems more similar to ours where they haven’t changed their law in over 25 years. I don't think you have to worry about the government killing people off.

@ChiariChris Can you say more about why the bill affects you? I thought it was only the terminally ill who were eligible to choose to end their suffering.

@ChiariChris I am terminally ill with cancer and I hope I will have a choice when my time comes. I’m not terrified exactly but I would rather not endure days and weeks of suffering if I have the option to avoid it.

@NormanLeedsPhD @CF_Farrow Do you think there will be 220,000 exceptions per year with assisted dying? Oregon is at around 1,000 assisted deaths per year. Why do you think they have avoided exceptions a quarter of a century after their bill?

@fleurmeston I am not sure why a low number of psychiatric consultations is a problem. Can you say more?

@fleurmeston Those “other” deaths (blood disease, kidney failure etc) are concerning (1% of the deaths). They were all considered terminal. I am not a doctor but a little research says that even a hernia can be terminal .

@mckdeb4 @Belinda67483369 @Docstockk I don't think the bill would pass if it were extended to include those with mental illnesses. It’s not possible to constrain future parliaments but it took 61 years to pass this bill. I doubt there will be any hurry to the next one.

@mckdeb4 @Belinda67483369 @Docstockk The court has supremacy in Canada but in the UK, parliament has supremacy. Most of the changes to the Canadian law were ordered by the Canadian court. That can't happen here.
The law in Oregon did not change in 25 years. The law won't change here unless parliament changes it.

Doctors will not be allowed to kill patients. Patients will be able to choose to end their suffering. What do I have wrong?

@Teacher_Fulton @RVeradonir @Tyler_A_Harper Doctors will not be in the business of killing the vulnerable under this bill. Killing patients will still be illegal. Patients will be given the option to end their own suffering.
