After being falsely accused, why has Shahriar Kabir been behind bars for the last eight months?

The truth is that under #Yunus, the so-called new Bangladesh is free for Islamists and jihadists, but not for liberal, secular, free-thinking people to express themselves. The judiciary is being used as a weapon to repress secular writers, journalists, intellectuals, artists, and others; there is no rule of law.

Over time, anyone who did not agree with the Islamist principles is being subjected to the Yunus government's fury and imprisoned on false charges. There are numerous instances of this, but Shahriar Kabir is among the most prominent.

The way that Yunus has treated journalist, writer, and human rights advocate Shahriar Kabir reflects the true nature of his commitment to upholding the rule of law and human rights.

On Saturday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres attended a joint press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka. The press conference was jointly called by the foreign affairs adviser to the interim government of #Bangladesh and the UN secretary-general. But journalists were not given the opportunity to ask questions here.

Journalists have alleged that it was a completely rigged press conference. The press conference was attended by journalists chosen by the chief adviser's controversial press secretary. Most of the journalists from Bangladesh's diplomatic beat were not invited to the press conference on diplomatic matters. Before the start of the press conference, journalists were unofficially told not to ask questions. They were also told not to raise their hands to ask questions. The journalists were told that they had been informed in advance who could ask questions.

At the beginning of the question-and-answer session of the press conference, it was announced that due to time constraints, only four questions would be taken. Only the four people nominated by the chief adviser's press secretary were allowed to ask questions. The first question was asked by an AFP journalist. The controversial press secretary of the chief advisor, Shafiqul Alam, was an AFP representative before joining the government service under the current government. After Shafiqul left the service, the journalist got a job at AFP. The other three journalists who got the opportunity to ask questions are also close to the press secretary Shafiqul. The three were journalists from New Age, Financial Express and Daily Star. All four of them are close to the chief advisor's office.

Talking to some journalists in Bangladesh, it was learned that the press secretary of the chief advisor was the main architect of this fake press conference. The opportunity to ask questions was not given to journalists to ensure that the UN Secretary-General was not questioned about the extreme deterioration of the human rights situation in Bangladesh, the rise of militancy, rape, murder, mob violence. Four journalists nominated for eyewash were given the opportunity to ask questions.

Another piece of evidence of Yunus’s friendship with the jihadists:
In a well-orchestrated plan, an armed gang ambushed a prison van and snatched away three convicted JMB jihadist terrorists in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh back on February 23rd, 2014. A police constable was killed as the gang of 10-15, all masked, opened fire and hurled crude bombs at the prison van.

Six JMB jihadist terrorists were later detained in relation to the earlier event for attempting to kidnap the convicted terrorists. They were Golam Sarwar Rahat, Azmir, Al-Amin, Jakaria, Russell, and Syed Ziaul Islam.
One of these terrorists, JMB's Golam Sarowar Rahat, was with Yunus during the time of his visit to the so-called ‘Aynaghar' today.

Quota organiser incites students for armed jihad in Bangladesh, calls further bloodshed for political gains

Glorifying the coordinated attack against liberals, minorities and law enforcers by militants across the country, Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators, asked students to take up arms, in a fresh escalation of violence. Like any hardline Islamist outfits, this call for asking students to take up arms is akin to serve the interest of outlawed militant outfits, no democratic causes.

Rejecting the call for dialogue by Prime Minister, now Nahid legitimized the unconstitutional demands seeking for bloodshed to pursue the goals of his political party.

While Nahid hid his political affiliation with the student front of BNP Jamaat sympathizer Nurul Haque Nur at initial stage of the movement, finally with this call exposed his interest to serve the interest of his political party. Nur has long been a strong ally of BNP Jamaat and even lent support for outlawed militant outfits.

While general students rejected Nahid’s call for violence earlier, they will again thwart these militants.
The world should not consider these radical sympathizers as face of general students.
