The diagram shows Ganga and Son rivers joining together at ancient Pataliputra.

Below it is another representation of how modern Patna looks, near Ganga.

Megasthenes mentions that Patliputra was situated at the junction of "Ganges & Eranoboas (Son) rivers."

However, in present times, Son joins Ganga at Maner.

In ancient times, Son met Ganga about 1 km from ancient Pataliputra.

Changes in the river course due to earthquakes, floods, made Son join Ganga 31 kms away from Patna in present times.

P.S: The Ganga has shifted away from Patna 5-7 kms between 1990-2019, due to illegal sand mining.

It will further shift away further by 7 kms more by 2074 and 15 kms by 2124.

Future residents of Patna would have to leave the city as water may not be available to them.
