A bright day in International University of Japan (IUJ). Thank you Professor Anjula Gurtoo and Professor N. S. Cooray for inviting me.
Uonuma and Minami Uonuma areas are famous for top class Japanese rice brand Koshi-hikari (魚沼コシヒカリ). Wanted to see the rice field in those areas for long time. Added was the great view of a rice terrace (棚田). And the weather was great with blue sky.

Visiting Nagaragawa area after more than 15 years. A place full with history, culture, food (famous for Ayu, sweet fish), and the core of river engineering and flood risk management. A great learning while enjoying fresh Ayu. 🙏
A rare experience of observing UKAI, (cormorant fishing) in Gifu which is a 1,300-year-old traditional method where master fishermen use trained birds to catch river fish by torchlight.
Had a wonderful seminar by Professor Rozana Himaz on the invisible impacts of drought. Her very detailed analysis shows that how a drought in Malawi has impacted girl students’ education in severe drought year.@ucl@UCL_GD@KeioSFC@KeioGlobal

Multiple tsunami defense: wave breaker, sea dyke and two levels of green belts, making it a height of 10m from the sea level. Also nice walking as well as cycling course along the coast. Onahama,
