@CoreyWriting The sad reality is, that these are some of the relatively few public high schools in NYC that offer advanced coursework; academically inclined kids may not have many other choices if they get a bad lottery number.
@eduleadership What a silly analogy. Tells you everything you need to know about the attitude to academic preparation in schools. They need to stop talking about differentiating instruction then, because, yeah, it’s impossible in the shape in which public schools operate today.
@effthealgorithm It’s like 200 pages and likely not the only book on the book list? Can be fun to reread at a different point in your life and writing career and likely time better spent than on X.
For anyone wondering how a kid can learn six years' worth of math in one year -- really *learn* it, not just "cover" it:
Each circle represents a topic. The darker the circle, the stronger the student's knowledge.
Students systematically master prerequisite topics before approaching more advanced ones.
While pushing forward, they interleave across many learning paths to improve transfer.
They also systematically review previously learned content at optimal intervals to strengthen long-term retention.
What you're seeing is a student's math brain getting wired up under maximum-efficiency learning conditions.
(The animation below is just for one course, a smaller subset of the entire curriculum.)
@frannyannyo@Annie_Wu_22 This is a thoughtfully designed, beautiful space with a lot of soul. Go play with your kids, read to them or just clean those messes in your house.
@Romy_Holland@RealDianeYap I hope you’re right since this is what you’re looking for. It must vary a lot by location. The teens I know are either interning/volunteering or doing things for college. Few manage to get flexible jobs in summer these days. But I don’t know that many 🤷🏻♀️
@Romy_Holland@RealDianeYap People under 23 don’t want to watch your baby. It’s high stakes, and in your case, low-pay activity. They can do retail or other tip heavy work.
@Romy_Holland It’s bc of the tail end risks. In, granted rare cases, mistakes or even inattention can have serious consequences and you may not see the them for years later (don’t want to go into grim scenarios now.) Attentive, calm, responsible adults not easy to find.
