Although ~17%-20% of the U.S. population resides in rural areas, only 3% of medical oncologists practice in rural communities, according to the National Cancer Institute (@theNCI). In fact, the odds of surviving a cancer diagnosis are lower in rural areas, with people being more likely to receive a diagnosis at a later stage and less likely to receive treatment compared to those in cities.

Our ongoing work with the American Cancer Society (@AmericanCancer) is focused on changing that, and we’re grateful to advocates like @PatrickDempsey for helping share stories of those impacted by cancer in rural areas. Together, we’re working to address cancer disparities and improve health outcomes for underserved communities in the U.S. #CloseTheCareGap and #ChangeTheOdds
