@MikeBinderjokes@mikemovies No movie has destroyed me like Children Of Men. And that's every damn time I watch it!! I'm sure you know the scene I'm thinking about.
I adored it from my late teens through early thirties, but I have a hunch I'd be impatient with him now. I read Dunces in my early thirties, too, along with my gf at the time, and we both found it hysterically funny. Matt & Walter did a chapter of Catch-22 on ATW and that led to my finally reading it, so maybe three years ago. Took forever, as I couldn't handle large doses for some reason, but in the smaller doses I laughed as hard as I ever have at any written material. But MAN is it long!
But having said all that, I don't find it difficult at all to imagine finding none of it funny. I have an online friend who is also very cultured and widely read, an English lady, who recently read Slaughterhouse-5 for the first time and found it completely disappointing. And I gasped when she referred to Python as too broad for her taste.
Honestly, I kind of like it when people I admire dislike things I imagined to be beyond reproach. It makes me look at the things in a new light and reminds me that nothing is beyond reproach.
Except maybe The Bible. Or the Three B's for that matter. But everything else is fair game!
