@learning_pt Let’s be real—outside of the old IITs,IISc and IIIT-H, no institute comes close in terms of student quality or outcomes. Even the least preferred branch at NITT closes above 97 percentile in home state(general) quota. Genuinely curious how these 25 are considered “better.”

Today is Swami Vivekananda's remembrance day.

London, 1896:
Swami Vivekananda sees a rare book comprising of all 108 Upanishads in Prof. Paul Deussen's library.

He wanted to read it.
The problem?
It was in Tamil.

So Vivekananda wrote to Alasinga Perumal (a Tamil school teacher) asking him to send a copy of the Tamil book juxtaposed with Devanagari equivalents so that he can learn to read the Tamil letters!

Imagine the amount of work required to read a huge tome of 108 Upanishads in a new language.

To someone with a thirst for knowledge, language is only a tool, a means to a greater end.
