Witnessing deafening silence about Palestine from those in the legal community who have made/will make careers out of “human rights” law & “progressive” work. Folks who debate social issues in academic circles or in boardrooms but can’t publicly denounce ethnic cleansing.
unexpected symptom of long distance is when I miss telling Mo every single stupid thought that passes through my head so I just have 75 notes on my phone with things like “decided to make my own pickles– more cost efficient”
@DebraParkes @coleenlisa Thanks Deb. A shout out to @OsgoodeNews graduate @RamnaSafeer, who was our RA on this article. A superb researcher, editor, junior lawyer, and (most importantly) remarkable person who is now out there doing great things. One to watch!!
small reminder for anyone who needs it: it is never too late to restart or freshen up or live authentically, whether or not it’s on January 1st. there is no timeline, there is only you. you’re not a brand to reinvent or a machine to hack— every day is your day. happy new year 😗

Very telling to see ppl say Trinity Bellwoods had become an “open air drug zone” because of the unhoused. I lived there for 10 years and on weekends that’s exactly what it was used for but when it’s middle-class white ppl using drugs somehow that’s always perfectly safe
Reminder: If they have the resources to evict & terrorize people experiencing homelessness in Trinity Bellwoods...they have the resources to provide safe, high-quality & affordable housing.
The criminalization of poverty must stop.
NO. MORE. EVICTIONS.

imagine wanting a space of collective grieving for your community at a vigil, only to see it full of the same politicians who sanctioned & supported the systemic Islamophobia that killed your people. not even our spaces of healing are safe from their platitudes. #londonontario
Many of our families go for evening walks — my mom often in her hijab and shalwar kamiz. And now, we have to be afraid to do that? Hyper-aware of what is around us? That family is ours. Madiha could’ve been any of our mothers. We are a community heartbroken and grieving. #ldnont
As Canada's oldest civil liberties & human rights legal org, we condemn Israeli air raid bombings, targeted attacks on Gaza & Jerusalem, dispossession of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah, and Israeli apartheid and ethnic cleansing that violates international law & Palestinian life.
students at @OsgoodeNews, you can’t miss out on this one!! best course I’ve taken and it’ll continue to inform my life and practice for many years to come!
Excited to announce that I'll be returning to @OsgoodeNews in the fall to deliver the Prison Law, Policy & Reform seminar.
This year we're taking things to the next level, where students will have opportunities to participate in advocacy for meaningful systemic change.
Liberation will not happen through academic articles or conferences or in the ivory tower or in law firms. If you have been silent or falsely “neutral”, turn the mirror to yourself. Know that many of us are taking note. Law doesn’t occur in a void and silence is loud.

On the other hand, many of us — racialized particularly, Palestinian most of all — know the risks deeply & disproportionately. We know the hushed warnings not to speak, the dangers it holds. But we also know silence as actors in an unjust system is allyship with the oppressor.
