To grow cotton in a desert, the Soviet Union drained the fourth-largest lake on earth. Then the children near its old shore began being born poisoned.

The Aral Sea sat between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, an inland sea full of fish and ringed by ports. From the 1960s, Soviet planners diverted the two rivers that fed it to irrigate cotton, a crop with no business in a desert.

The sea fell fast. Within thirty years it had lost over ninety per cent of its water and broken into salty remnants. Salinity climbed past the ocean's, and the fish died off, species by species.

Moynaq, once home to tens of thousands of fishermen, now sits a hundred miles from water, its harbour a field of rusting trawlers.

Then the seabed turned on the people. Cotton is the most chemically drenched crop on earth, and decades of pesticide and defoliant had settled on the sea floor. The wind lifts that dry crust, salt laced with DDT, into the lungs of everyone downwind.

Around the old shore, throat cancer runs at twenty-five times the global rate. Tuberculosis, anaemia and kidney disease are everywhere. Infant mortality is among the worst on the planet, birth defects keep climbing, and mothers are warned not to breastfeed, because the poison comes through in their milk. People call it a Chernobyl you can walk into. All of it, to grow a plant for cloth.

Now hold that against the fibre we are taught to feel guilty about. Wool grows on a sheep on a Welsh hillside in the rain, cropping grass off land too steep to ever plough. It asks for no irrigation, only weather. The sheep grows the fleece back every year, and when the jumper wears through it rots back into the soil.

Cotton, the plant, drank a sea dry and salted a region's children. Wool, the animal, takes only grass and rain and hands the ground something back. Next time you are told the ethical wardrobe is plants and never animals, point east, to the boats lying in the dust where a sea used to be.

We make it far too easy for senators in the minority to use the filibuster to kill bills supported by the majority.

The whole idea behind the filibuster has, from the beginning, been to protect and prolong debate—not to cut off debate, forcing the Senate to abandon any bill that doesn’t immediately receive the support of at least 60 senators.

Filibustering is supposed to require far more than opposing cloture.

Especially for bills of exceptional national importance—like the SAVE America Act—senators should be required to hold the floor and speak.

The minute filibustering senators stop doing that, the legislation can and should be passed at a simple-majority threshold.

This is not a radical idea.

This describes what the filibuster is, how it has historically operated, and how it should work today.

Share this message if you agree that the Senate—and the country as a whole—would be well served by a return to this approach.

Poison ivy is, to humans, a genuine menace. Brush against it and roughly eight in ten people break out in itching, blistering allergic dermatitis, thanks to an oil called urushiol. It spreads with horrible efficiency along field edges, roadsides and any disturbed ground. Chemicals need repeated spraying. Pulling it out by hand means full protective gear and careful disposal, because the dead plant stays just as irritant for years afterwards.

The goat is immune. Completely. It simply doesn't have the immune sensitivity to urushiol that turns the stuff into misery for the rest of us. So the goat eats it. Efficiently, repeatedly, without the faintest distress, and with real enthusiasm, having decided that poison ivy makes a perfectly acceptable lunch.

This is now an actual business. Across the United States you can hire a herd of goats, contracted specifically to strip poison ivy out of properties, parks and conservation sites.

The goats arrive. The goats eat. The goats wander off to the next job. No chemicals, no hazmat suits, no specialist disposal, no human covered head to toe and regretting their choices.

And it isn't only poison ivy. The goat takes poison oak and poison sumac in its stride too, the entire urushiol-producing family, the plants we have spent decades and fortunes trying to keep at arm's length.

The goat never had the problem in the first place. It just turned up and ate the solution.

1. Refused Outpatient Treatment — Family doctors, clinics, urgent care physicians refused to see patients or provide early treatment, instructing patients to “do nothing” until oxygen levels dropped requiring hospitalization.

2. Isolation tactics — Upon being admitted to the hospital victims were denied access to family, friends, advocates, pastors, priests, or clergy. Even in death, last rites and family access were refused.

3. Denial of rights — Admission and consent forms were left unsigned or marked by staff as “unable to sign.” Staff falsely claimed “verbal” consent to treatments was provided.

4. No informed consent — Victims/POA received no information on risks or side effects of medications, intubation, or procedures as evidenced by no formal documentation in medical records and testimony by family or survivors.

5.Vaccination Discrimination — Victims faced mockery, verbal abuse, and neglect based on vaccination status. Often receiving lower levels of care and different treatment options.

6. Rapid oxygen escalation — Oxygen levels increased aggressively (often via BiPAP), causing anxiety and lung damage that led to mechanical ventilation.

7.Forced protocol drugs only — Victims were limited to heavily incentivized and harmful hospital protocol drugs: Remdesivir/Veklury, Baricitinib/Olumiant, Tocilizumab/Actemra — often forced even when refused.

8.Denied other treatments — Requests for vitamins, Ivermectin, Budesonide, Hydroxychloroquine, etc., were refused or ridiculed. Families were falsely told these were “not FDA approved” or “ineffective.”

9.Gaslighting — Constantly told they would “die without compliance to protocol” or ventilation; families and victims told repeatedly they were “a very sick woman or man.”

10.Communication cut-off — Call lights, glasses, phones, or devices were removed or placed out of reach. Families were falsely told patients didn’t want to speak.

11.Refusal to communicate — Doctors, nurses, and administrators ignored family and advocate inquiries, often disregarding valid medical and durable POA documents.

12. Sedation and overdose — Heavy use of Ativan, Midazolam, Haldol, Lorazepam, Precedex, Morphine, and Fentanyl, impairing breathing and leading to overdoses requiring reversal drugs.

13. Non-emergency ventilation — Victims were pressured into early or unnecessary ventilation “to let the lungs rest,” despite no emergency need.

14.Manipulated DNR orders — Pressure to sign Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders, misrepresentation of Do Not Intubate (DNI) as DNR, or outright falsification and disregard of existing directives.

15. Starvation and dehydration — Victims were denied food, water, or any nutrition and given diuretics or laxatives instead.

16. Physical and chemical restraints — Used without legal justification or proper documentation.

17. Bathroom denial — Forced catheterization or use of rectal tubes without need or consent.

18. Neglect of basic care — Hygiene, oral care, bathing, grooming, and dirty linens are often ignored.

19. Dehumanization — Victims described as being treated like animals, stripped of dignity.

20. Intuition of wrongdoing — Families and victims overwhelmingly felt “something was terribly wrong.”

21.End of Life Care pushed — Pressured into palliative care, comfort care or hospice early on; often covertly ordered.

22. Security enforcement — Police or security used to enforce isolation and institutional policies; families threatened with arrest when advocating for their loved one.

23. Refusal of new doctors or facility transfer — Denied requests to change doctors or transfer hospitals; rapid decline or hastening of death when transfers were attempted.

24. Secondary infections — Hospital-acquired infections like Sepsis or MRSA; severe wounds, injuries, necrosis, blood clots and pressure sores developed.

25. Unqualified or transient staff — Treatment by foreign, travel, FEMA, or inadequately qualified medical personnel.
