We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ozzie Virgil Sr.

On September 23, 1956, Virgil made his debut with the New York Giants and became the first native of the Dominican Republic to play in the Major Leagues.

“He means a lot,”  Juan Soto said in 2023. “He was the first Dominican coming to the big leagues and opened the doors for … not only Dominicans, for all Latin players.”

Virgil, a Marine Corps veteran, played nine Major League seasons. He then spent more than two decades as a Major League coach, including with the 1984 NL champion San Diego Padres.

Our thoughts are with his son, two-time All-Star catcher Ozzie Virgil Jr., and the rest of the Virgil family.

Ozzie Virgil Sr. was 92.

Trump @realDonaldTrump screwed up! He knows it, but he’s too venal to show humility and too weak to apologize.

You can tell he knows because he is trooping out his dishonest surrogates to gaslight the American public, saying he was there at the request of these Gold Star families and he cares about our soldiers. He almost certainly sought out this family to use it as a prop and opened recent wounds.

If cared about the fallen soldiers or families, this would not have looked like a deranged photo op and Arlington National Cemetery staff would not have been harassed and manhandled.

Who out there still thinks that Trump has any respect or regard for the troops?

He has called the troops “suckers” and “losers,” he’s degraded the Medal of Honor, and he’s desecrated the final resting place of so many of our heroes, the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery.

We’ve seen this before and I’ve seen it firsthand: When Trump screws up he sends his dishonorable surrogates to go out there and lie for him to clean things up. #WereNotGoingBack
