With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our friend and trusted UWA ranger, Pte Olara Jonathan, who was tragically killed while protecting Uganda’s wildlife. He was shot in an encounter with armed poachers while on patrol yesterday.
Jonathan’s bravery and dedication to conservation were evident in every mission we engaged with him, whether collaring elephants and lions or tirelessly monitoring wildlife on an ongoing basis in the wild. We spent quite some time with him and got to know him well and appreciate his love and dedication for his work. He became a close friend, especially to Jimmy, Denis, Michael and Innocent, and an invaluable part of our team.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
