As critics have been arguing all along, individualised, medicalised and decontextualised models & narratives are not only net ineffective, but even contribute to and exacerbate social & psychological issues and distress.

We dont face a crisis of 'mental disorders' in need of medical or cognitive treatment, we face a socio-psychological crisis and a crisis of medicalisation in need of a societal rethink.

Using dementia as a casual insult is sloppy and unfair. It turns a serious neurodegenerative illness into a punchline, and in doing so it insults patients and families who actually live with the reality of cognitive decline, dependency, distress, and loss. Dementia is not shorthand for being cruel, grandiose, narcisstic, dishonest, or morally deficient; those are different things entirely, and collapsing them together muddies both medical truth and public language.

I’m deeply ashamed of this woman, Salma Rasheed talking on behalf of #Maldives ! For this woman, not to condemn #Israel for all the international crimes they are committing in #Iran , #Palestine and #Lebanon is a slap on the faces of the people of Maldives.

We Maldivians are furious about the atrocities committed by Israel. This war was initiated by Israel and USA. For this woman to condemn Iran and just ignore the atrocities committed by Israel shows that this woman, Salma Rasheed, is an accomplice in the #genocide!

Being a woman yourself, how can you sleep at night after giving that biased statement, ignoring all the innocent lives taken by Donald Trump and Netanyahu?

Don’t you know that civilians in Lebanon are being killed and misplaced and driven out of their homes by Israel? Didn’t you know that more than 75000 civilians have been killed in Gaza by Israel? Don’t you know that the leader of a muslim nation was murdered in his home with his family?

Don’t you know that The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a formal arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on November 21, 2024, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, including starvation as a weapon of war and murder in Gaza? That he is considered a fugitive, with 128 member states obligated to arrest him if he enters their territory?

Please don’t EVER TALK ON BEHALF OF THE MALDIVIAN CITIZENS! We condemn you Salma Rasheed!!!

We are an independent nation! I have friends in USA and I don’t hate the people of any nation. But when the leaders of a nation is doing something wrong, we have to be able to say it as it is. Especially when they are committing a genocide and is hell bent on ethnic cleansing. Donald Trump and Netanyahu are a shame on their citizens and so are you Salma Rasheed!

A 32 year old woman was in ICU. Severely ill. Delirium. Terrified.

She was being wheeled from ICU to a ward. Confused. Not understanding what was happening. Then the porter stopped the bed, knelt down beside her, held her hand and said:

"Don't worry, love. You're getting better. You've had a terrible time. I'm just taking you to a ward and things are going to be okay."

That's all he said.

She told me it was the most important interaction she had in her entire month in hospital. Transformative. At that moment, someone looked at her like a human being and told her she was going to be alright.

You don't need training to do this. You need 20 seconds and the willingness to kneel beside someone and provide them with a moment of kindness.

🧠 Delirium is still missed far too often - & when we miss it, patients suffer, & families carry the consequences.

Two commonly used delirium tools are the 4AT & the CAM. Both can be useful.

A crucial point (often lost in day-to-day practice): the CAM was designed to be used with brief cognitive testing & an interview - observation-only “CAM-lite” approaches are not validated & can miss delirium.

Disclosure: I am the main author of the 4AT (no financial COI - the 4AT is free). My interest here is not “tool rivalry” - it’s reliable delirium detection.

Maldives Police target “expatriates” for checks between 00:00–06:00, effectively imposing a night-time curfew on migrant workers.
This is racial and status-based profiling, not law enforcement.

Let’s be clear: many so-called “immigration violations” are manufactured by Maldivian employers and recruiters — fake jobs, unpaid wages, confiscated passports, and abandonment.
When workers are exploited and left with no choice, the state arrests them, locks them in cells, and deports them — while the real criminals walk free.

Workers are denied a real chance to clear their name, recover stolen wages, or sue abusive employers.
This violates the UDHR (Arts. 2, 7, 9, 13) and the Migrant Workers Convention, which forbids collective punishment.

Criminalising victims while protecting exploiters is systematic abuse, not governance.
I call on @HRCMaldives @AGOfficeMV @PGO_Maldives to investigate and act.
